For me, it has to be Ustad Nusret Fateh Ali Khan. The ghazals, qawalis and Hamds that he performed were very difficult compared to Indian Filmi songs that don't require much effort.

Lata has no doubt a very melodious voice but all her songs sound the same to me. No variety.

It depends on what do you mean by best. There is no doubt NFAK took sub continent music to a whole new level. The pioneer of the fusion of east with west. In that matter yes he was the best. But as far as vocal strength is concerned I think Mehdi Hasan is very good. Sajjad Ali is another very gifted vocalist. For some reason I like Asha Bhosle's voice better then Lata's. And Rafi was a great singer. No comparison of Rafi with Kishore as far a melody and vocals are concerned. So bottom line NFAK over all the best. I think a close call between Rafi and Mehdi Hasan bit I personally would go for Rafi.

Kishore Kumar for sure is #1. Among current ones, I would rate Abhijeet as the best, based on quality and richness of voice. 2nd would be Sajjad Ali.
