Who will be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan? (requested by 2bornot2b)

Very True :k:

Look at the question and you will feel the helplessness of the pollster in deciding the PM of his country. "will be"...why not "who should be" or "who would you like as"? The phrase "will be" shows that you are polling but someone else is going to make the real decision.

err i was not sure a GUpshup Poll could actually make decisions of national and international level. I think I underestimated the power of the few thousand ppl here in comparison to the millions of eligible voters..

dudes, lets get another poll going on kashmir, according to Chan bhai here, the results of the poll are official and should decide major decisions.

dang..GS is that powerful...kewl..

Fraud bhai not so soon my friend...look at the online poll process or general gallop polls..they don't ask who you think would be next Governor of California? The question usually is " who would you vote for Governor of california? or Who you think deserves to be the next Governor of California, who in your view is the best candidate for Governorship of California.
Comparing your poll to that now...who will be the next PM of Pakistan? So we are going to guess? We are going to guess what other people are going to decide...
Why not ask what you think is the best candidate for PM and why?

Yes but that is after the voting is done already, some voted and some did not. Now the issue is more of

1) which parties form coalitions
2) which candidates do they suggest. remembering that even each major contending party here itself is a coalition of several splinter groups or politcal parties.
3) which nominee from which coalition partner in the majority coalition will get the seat.

so its a much more involved process where u have to factor in who will form alliances, who will get the nod from their own party and who will utlimately get the nod of the ruling coalition..taht is when we find out which parties are a part of the ruling coalition

its not just a guess but an analysis of how the coalition and nominations are going to play out.

The people have cast their votes, now its upti political leaders to figure out how they can represent their constituents.

*Why not ask what you think is the best candidate for PM and why? *

Because thats an entireley different question. That is more of a question of who is best suited for the job in my view, versus based on how the nation has voted and the conditions that exist, who will be the next leader.

Who ever it is, I just hope it's not one of Maulana's!
Btw, when is the cermony going to be? I mean when is the parliament/assembly going to sit?

Jamali may get speakership; PML-QA, Muttahida to get ministries; MMA, PML-N to sit in opposition; Zardari to be bailed out; Benazir to stay abroad for at least two more years as part of deal; PML-QA to share power in Punjab

Amin Fahim to head ‘national government’

LAHORE: A `government of national unity’, with Makhdoom Amin Fahim as prime minister, is in the offing as the government-PPPP deal has materialized because of the US intervention, The News has learnt.

Sources in the government have revealed six ministers will initially take oath – three from the PML-QAA, one from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and two from the PPPP. It is learnt Ch Aitezaz Ahsan will get an important portfolio in the cabinet. It is also learnt the government is working on the PML-QA, especially Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, to settle him for the speakership of the National Assembly.

The political wheeler-dealers are busy finalizing the shape of the next government. Apart from Islamabad, a few important meetings were on in Lahore as well for drawing the sketch of the next Punjab government. Sources say the MMA and PML-N will sit in the opposition, though MMA taking the control of the NWFP.

The PPPP will form a coalition government with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-A and the PML-QA in Sindh, while the PML-QA will form the government in Punjab. It is learnt the PPPP will get an important slot in Punjab as well. The fate of Balochistan has not yet been finalized.

The important part of this deal is the possible release (on bail) of Asif Ali Zardari, who is expected to be released on Thursday (today). It is important to note Ms Bhutto has succeeded in forcing the government to accept the terms she set forth in the proposed deal. Sources say the PPPP will be given the relief in the shape of legal amnesty to the party stalwarts, including Ms Bhutto. The course of such an arrangement, that is legal amnesty, will be properly chalked out. However, sources say, Ms Bhutto will have to stay away from Pakistan for two years, at least. It is a very important part of the deal.

This deal has been made possible after the US intervention. The US Under Secretary of State Ms Christina Rocca had held an important meeting with Ms Bhutto in Washington early this week. It is learnt the ‘displeasure’ of the US government over the PPPP’s support to a ‘hardliner’ from rightwing was passed on to Ms Bhutto in this meeting. The PPP Chairperson’s cordial relations with the US came under skepticism in this meeting as the PPPP was working against the US interests by creating problems for ‘Uncle Sam’s man’ in Pakistan. Sources said Ms Bhutto complained against the political arrogance of President Musharraf. Nevertheless, the US convinced her to enter into the said deal on the give-n-take basis.

This deal has been confirmed by some top PPPP men, who preferred not to be named. A central PPPP leader told The News the deal would be a strong blow to the ARD. He was of the view this deal would blemish the PPP’s image, especially in the eyes of the seasoned politician, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, who had struggled for democracy’s revival all along. This deal will also widen the gap between the PPPP and the rightwing bloc, which would be ditched in case of the formation of a government of national unity. The PML-QA central leader Ch Shujaat Hussain and Amin Fahim were scheduled to meet late Wednesday night in Islamabad to thrash out the contours of the new national government

I'd love to see MMA to support Zubaida Jalal but it is much difficult for them because thay already have made so many statements which are contradicting to their own previous ones. So expecting an other contradiction is hopefull but however, difficult.

Things are going in favor of Makhdoom Fahim Amin as PPPP agreed on forming the Govt. after rejecting three times.

P.S If Zubaida Jalal won't be our next PM, I hope she continue her struggle for educating poor people of Pakistan. Ameen :)

Latest speculation on what government and PM we will have…

PPPP, PML-QA close to a breakthrough

The Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians have almost finalised a power-sharing formula for establishing a national government with a PML-QA man as the prime minister and slots of deputy prime minister and speaker of the National Assembly going to the PPPP, highly informed PPPP sources told Daily Times on Thursday. They said the development that is expected to end the prolonged political stalemate came about after a meeting between ‘government’s negotiators’ and Asif Ali Zardari, spouse of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Sources said only a couple of issues — including Ms Bhuttoo’s return to the country and the National Security Council’s role in the future setup remained to be settled “and the government is ready to release of the PPPP political prisoners and accept the party’s demands on the Legal Framework Order”. They said the formula was expected to take final shape by November 10 (Sunday).

Sources said the PPPP was ready to forgo its claim to the prime minister’s office and had settled for the National Assembly speaker and deputy premiership slots. Jamali PM, Makhdoom DPM: If the PPPP and PML-QA agree on the formula, Mr Zafarullah Jamali would be the next prime minister of the country, while Makhdoom Amin Fahim would be the deputy prime minister (DPM), PPPP sources added. They said if Mr Fahim did not accept the office, either Mr Naveed Qamar or Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat would bag the slot. However, in that eventuality Mr Qamar’s chances of landing the office are stronger, “because he hails from a smaller province”, PPPP sources said. The PPPP would nominate Mr Aitzaz Ahsan or Mr Shah Mehmood Qureshi for the speaker’s slot, sources said. “Now only reservations of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who does not want a coalition with the PPPP, and a few conditions set by the PPPP remain to be addressed,” they said. The government has agreed to granting bail to political prisoners within the next couple of weeks, besides ‘compromising’ on the LFO, but how the issue of return of Ms Bhutto and role of the NSC are settled would be crucial for the formula’s future.

If the government does not budge on the former and the PPPP on the latter, it would be fatal for the formula’s chances and disastrous for the over-all political development, PPPP sources said. Rana Qaisar adds: PML-QA candidate for premiership Mir Zafarullah Jamali and PPPP parliamentary leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim held a detailed meeting late Wednesday night at Balochistan House in Islamabad to discuss various combinations of a coalition between the two major parliamentary groups. PML-QA sources told Daily Times that the Jamali-Fahim meeting was arranged by the ‘puppeteers’ of the military government ‘working’ on the politicians after they succeeded in creating cracks in the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and distancing the parties from the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) to pre-empt the formation of a grand anti-Musharraf alliance in parliament. Sources said while the PML-QA was not willing to withdraw Mr Jamali as its candidate for premiership, it had shown flexibility on the slot of National Assembly speaker, as the proposed name for this position was that of Rao Sikandar Iqbal, a ‘friend’ of President Pervez Musharraf.

Shujaat denies deal with PPPP

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, parliamentary leader of the Quaid-Muslim League, said talks with the People’s Party had failed, denied settling on a power sharing formula with the Bhutto-led party and said his party should be given the chance to form the government. In a press release issued late Thursday, Mr Hussain was quoted as saying that his party, PML-QA, is in touch with other political parties but that this did not mean it has struck a deal with any one of them. The Quaid group is all for a government of ‘national consensus’, the release said, adding that the next prime minister must be from the party that has majority in parliament. Mr Hussain said the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and the PPP-P were playing blind man’s bluff with each other. He said the denial of Makhdoom Amin Fahim on news of him having asked the government to delay the inaugural national assembly session was a ruse. He also described the meeting between Mr Fahim and Mir Zafarullah Jamali as nothing more than a photo-op.

They all should just sit in opposition and Mush should make Imran Khan the PM, life will be so easy :)

So Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali seems to be the one who will be sworn in as PM?

When is the NA intial session? Wasn't it supposed to be on the 5th?

I think there is usually only ONE Prime Minister, at one time. Maybe you are talking about Deputy Prime Minister.

I’m not talking about Deputy PM. Had we ever get Deputy PM?

What I actually meant that there is also a little chance for Fahim Amin.

MMA - PML(Q) talks just collapsed.

I just hope its no one Pro Taliban who will win.
Giving Americans A Reason to attack pakistan.

PT, I think Faisal is talking about Jamali as PM and Fahim as Deputy PM as that article alludes to. Such a position maybe created for this type of coalition, as we have a three way party split for the first time. Their have been similar such positions created before to suit such political realities. Not to long ago there was a 'Senior Minister', just under the Chief Minister of Punjab, and at present we have a VCOAS, just under the COAS.

We may even have a Vice-President of Pakistan under Musharraf, if the MMA is given the Senate Chairmanship if a deal arises with them? Who knows...?

Last night watching the news I notice Farooq Leghari among PML-Q and MMA, didn’t see him among the two parties before. It could be that both parties may decide to elect Farooq Leghari as PM.

PML-Q and MMA should form the government and elect Farooq Leghari as the PM. I would go for that :k:

.. as Millat Party is but a non-entity - the only way Farooq Leghari can become only if imposed from above.. in Pakistan’s politics Leghari has fallen from respected politician when he was in PPP to greedy power hungry when he parted with PPP and tried to grasp power but ultimately booted out by Nawaz Shareef at the end! How leghari can justly become PM as he commands no trust among voters in Pakistan! with just one vote in his party.. itw ould be great injustics to many hopefulls who are backed by crores of votes..

Hats off to PPPP ;)
