Who Wears the Pants

Re: Who Wears the Pants

I make the decisions in the end, but I don't consider myself as dominating.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

We work together. . . no issue is left up in the air so that one of us feels like we didn't get what we want. it's called compromise, a beautiful ability God has given us.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

same here :waves:

Re: Who Wears the Pants

For my family, I guess it depends on whether mom or dad has expertise in the matter. Dad is a business guy, so matters requiring some knowledge of law/business/money, he makes. But mom decides how to spend the money ;)

Dunno what it will be for me in the future, but if its matters of money and business, I'd rather take fiance's advise than my own. :-/ I get conned way too easily.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

dunno about pants but i wear the trousers..

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Brilliantly put. Men should, in general, have the final say in financial matters. As far as decisions on house matters (such as decoration, groceries, etc etc) women can have the final say.

I mean in both situations there should NOT be one side dominating; however, when all is said and done, the husband should have the last call in money decisions and wife in other house related decisions :)

Re: Who Wears the Pants

dad
mom

Re: Who Wears the Pants

what if the wife is the bread winner and the husband the mom-dad.
what if both individuals work to pay the bill?

still the husband should have the final say in the money decision?

Re: Who Wears the Pants

I'm of the opinion that women shouldn't work (unless the family is in a financial crisis, Khuda na Kasta).

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Both should make the decision.
Just coz wife doesn't work means she has any less of a say in all household matters.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Anil Khan, I think you misunderstood my explanation.

I think that whoever has the financial knowledge should be the one making the financial decisions. I’m talking about things like investments, banking, loans, mortgages, retirement plans, etc - things that I personally don’t know THAT much about. Although I have recently become acquainted with loans :pcg:

If the wife has a business major or works in business, or business law, or whatever field by which she is able to understand these matters better, then I definitely think she deserves to be part of the decision.

If the situation is reversed, and wifey is in business and hubby is not (I’ve seen such situations), then the wife gets the upper hand in the financial decisions.

I reason based on practicality, not male dominance.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

^ Agree. But usually, atleast in Pk and people of Pk, males are more financially knowledgable.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Right, and that's because women are usually held back socially from having active careers, and in many cases, held back from even having an education.

I think most Pakistani women don't even know how to read or write (taking account villagers and the poor).

Re: Who Wears the Pants

I'm all for education of women, no doubt. However, if the husband is providing a comfortable life for the family, then there is no reason for the wife to work. I view education of women as a safety plan; that is, if the family goes into a financial crisis then the wife is capable enough to find a decent job.

I know this is old school thinking but it doesn't neccessarily mean its wrong.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

You know, some women LIKE to do other things with their life than sitting at home.

Gah, I can't believe how many Pakistanis think the way you do. Its horrendous.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Just to add to the above; my main reason for not being in favour of women working is so that they can look after the children. I wouldn't want my kids to grow up with a nanny or babysitter. There is no replacement for a mother's touch.

Personally, if my mom wasn't home taking care of me and my brother then I'm sure we'd be like the rest of the youth of the West (or most of 'em) drinking and doing drugs.

Re: Who Wears the Pants

anil...mothers arent working ALL the time. they do come home, usually right around the time that the children come home from school.

and my experience has been that men (pakistani men) just jump on the financial band wagon. use credit cards here and there, accumalate loan. women are the ones that have more knowledge about how to handle the finances. (ofcourse, unless the man has some kind of special knowledge about these things...like PCG said)

Re: Who Wears the Pants

Personally speaking, I woudn't want my wife to work after we have kids. Before kids, MAYBE. I can be convinced of that if the work is "saaf sutra" Eg. Teacher.
