Just use your logic/common sense.

  1. Wives
  2. Children
  3. Grand Children
  4. and son in law

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

Dear brother,, do you mean , Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) having two family, one for sunni and one for shia???

it is not a good question.

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

But this is a reality...according to shias...wives are not family members... :D

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

what is this nonesense...is asking about prophet(pbuh) family is not dahng ki baat ????

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

Quran says:

“O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other of the women; If you will be on your guard, then be not soft in your speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease yearn; and speak a good word. And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance; and establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity; and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah only wishes to remove all abomination from you, **you Ahlel Bayt (People of the House), **and to make you pure and spotless.” (Quran, 33:32-33)

So wives of the Prophet are reffered to Ahlel Bayat in this ayat of the Quran.

Below is a list who are included in Ahlel Bayat.

  1. The Prophet’s wives
  2. The Prophet’s children
  3. The Prophet’s freed slaves
  4. Ahlel Kisa (People of the Cloak, i.e. Ali ibn Abi Talib’s family)
  5. The family of Aqil (رضّى الله عنه)
  6. The offspring of Jafar (رضّى الله عنه)
  7. The offspring of Abbas (رضّى الله عنه)
  8. Salman al-Farsi (رضّى الله عنه) etc...

^^ good information....

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

r u seeking answers like:

just one of his 11 wives, just one of his 4 daughters, and just one of his 3 sons-in-law, and just the progeny of that one particular daughter and son-in-law, none of his fathers-in-law????
o some might include some chosen cousins and even some particular companions as well....

the first relation that comes to mind when someone speaks of FAMILY for any person is the spouse, and if someone rules spouse out of family dont u think its stupid????

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

First of All Thank you very much for a decent reply for the question.

I would like to move towards the Quran Verse which raise alots of question in mind of the reader, where one Verse about the family of the Prophet (pbuh) is below during the delegation of Najrani Christians

Quran
"If anyone disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge hath come to thee, say: 'come! Let us gather together; our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. Then let us invoke the curse of God on those who lie!' (Holy Quran 3:61)

The next morning, the Prophet finished his morning prayers and ordered Ali to follow him and Fatima, in turn, holding Al-Hassan and Al-Hussain to follow Ali.

The Prophet (SAW) then told them: "When I supplicate you should say: Amen."

When the delegation saw the holy family and that the Prophet (SAW) had spread a mat for himself and family, they said to each other: "By Allah, he is a true Prophet; and if he curses us, surely Allah will answer his prayer and destroy us. The only thing that can save us, is to ask him to relieve us from this meeting."

Could you please explain the matter in light of the this verse, that why wives of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) had not added during the famous event.

ALLAH HAM SAB KA HAMI WA NASIR HO

*Healtymind * - The answer to your query in fact lies in the very ayah that you have quoted, but you got t read it without closed eyes.

You got to admit the Quran does not state anything ambiguous or vague. Read the words in the ayah again especially of interest are, “our women and your women”.

If there was only one woman who qualified as from Ahlul Bayt (as the Shias erroneously claim), why would then Quran state that on Muslim’s side the women are in plural in the words - “our women”.

Keep in mind that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) had multiple wives, so do expect him to bring all of them into the open??!!

So safely to say that Lady Fatimah (ra) represented the “our women” from the Prophet’s (peace be upon him and his family) side and that includes his wives (May Allah be pleased with them all).

This event that you mention occurred in the 1oth year of hegira and by this time Prophet's three other daughters had died so their absence.

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

^^ Excellent reply...as usual

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

as far as I know zaid b arqam[ra] has narrated that banu abdul muttalib are the ahlulbayt [inclusive of some companions which were mostly freed slaves]
and wives are NOT a part of it

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

Brother Das Reich - I hope that you are refering to the following narration of *Zaid b. Arqam * (ra).

*Yazid b. Hayyan reported, I went along with Husain b. Sabra and 'Umar b. Muslim to Zaid b. Arqam and, as we sat by his side, Husain said to him: Zaid. you have been able to acquire a great virtue that you saw Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) listened to his talk, fought by his side in (different) battles, offered prayer behind me. Zaid, you have in fact earned a great virtue. Zaid, narrate to us what you heard from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him).

He said: I have grown old and have almost spent my age and I have forgotten some of the things which I remembered in connection with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him), so accept whatever I narrate to you, and which I do not narrate do not compel me to do that. He then said: One day Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him and delivered the sermon and. exhorted (us) and said: Now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the angel of death) from my Lord and I, in response to Allah's call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family.

He (Husain) said to Zaid: Who are the members of his household? Aren't his wives the members of his family?

Thereupon he said: His wives are the members of his family (but here) the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden.

And he said: Who are they? Thereupon he said: 'Ali and the offspring of 'Ali, 'Aqil and the offspring of 'Aqil and the offspring of Ja'far and the offspring of 'Abbas. Husain said: These are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden.

Zaid said: Yes*. ......... Sahih Bukhari Book 031, Number 5920

*Zaid b. Arqam * (ra) has emphasized very clearly that "His wives are the members of his family"

Now brother tell me how do you understand that he means that the wives are not part of Prophet's (saw) family?

And please care to enlighten us why the Quran has used plural "our women" whereas as according to Shias there is only one female member of Ahlul Bayt?

Did Quran make a grammatical mistake?

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

My understanding is that the Shia obtain justification for their faith from the belief that Ali was cast into the role of the chief imam by Prophet Mohammad pbuh, just as Prophet Harun was cast into into the role of chief imam for the Israelites by by his real brother Prophet Moses.

bob

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

Brother Das Reich The hadith that you have quoted is the shorter version of what I had quoted. (and the one I quoted is on the same page of the link that you have given.)

And there are also hadith where the Prophet (saw) has referred to his wives with the very word "Ahlul Bayt". Quran has also used the same word for refering to the wife/wives of the Prophet (saw). It just the Shia who deny the wives are Ahlul Bayt for obvious reasons nothing less nothing more.

Brother Das Reich Care to answer the following question I had raised earlier?

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

healtymind:

Glorious Quran Chapter 3 Verse 61:
And unto him who disputeth with thee therein after the knowledge hath come unto thee, Say ! ( O' Our Apostle Muhammad ! ) ( Unto them ) come ye, let us summon our sons, and ( ye summon ) your sons, and ( we summon ) our women and ( ye ) your women, and ( we summon ) ourselves and then let us invoke the curse of God on the liars !

When this verse was revealed, the Holy Prophet sent for Hazrat Ali, Janab-e-Fatima, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain and prayed to God thus: "O My God! These are the very Ahl-ul-Bait of mine!

If somebody else was included in AhlulBait then Prophet pbuh would have brought them too as Quran is saying summon OUR WOMEN. our women could have included wives too, but prophet pbuh showed by example who is included in Ahlul Bait.

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

healtymind:
One more for you to look at and think.

http://www.iiu.edu.my/deed/hadith/muslim/031_smt.html

Sahih Muslim
Book 31, Number 5955:
'A’isha reported that Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) went out one norning wearing a striped cloak of the black camel’s hair that there came Hasan b. 'Ali. He wrapped hitn under it, then came Husain and he wrapped him under it along with the other one (Hasan). Then came Fatima and he took her under it, then came 'Ali and he also took him under it and then said: Allah only desires to take away any uncleanliness from you, O people of the household, and purify you (thorough purifying)

If wives were included in AhlulBait then A’isha r.a would have been in the cloak.

Re: WHO WAS FAMILY OF PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH).???

“O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other of the women; If you will be on your guard, then be not soft in your speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease yearn; and speak a good word. And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance; and establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity; and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah only wishes to remove all abomination from you, you Ahlel Bayt (People of the House), and to make you pure and spotless. And recite what is rehearsed to you in your homes, of the Signs of Allah and His Wisdom: for Allah understands the finest mysteries and is well-acquainted (with them).” (Quran, 33:32-34)

When verse 33:33 was revealed honoring the Prophet’s wives, the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وآله وسلّم) did not want to exclude his other relatives from this honor. So he gathered them around under his mantle (cloak) and made them honorary members of Ahlel Bayt.

Al-islam.org, a shia website says:

Almighty Allah revealed the verse “O wives of the Prophet…Allah only desires to…” The Holy Prophet (s) covered Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them all) with the cloak and then stretched his hand toward the sky and said: “Allah! These are the Members of my Household, so purify them of all uncleanliness.” Umm Salamah (the Prophet’s wife) said: “I asked him: ‘Am I also with you?’ He stated: ‘You are on good and virtue *(but did not say you are a member of my household). *

The phrase in parenthesis “but did not say you are a member of my household” does not appear anywhere in the Arabic, but rather this is a complete fabrication.

So wives were already part of the family as stated in the Quran.
