What you guys think who is/was the better singer Noor Jehan or Lata Mangeshkar. I think If we compare the peaks of both singers, I found Noor Jehan Better than Lata. What Do you Think!!!
Both of the singers have there own style and ways to sing!!!! many songs sung by Noor Jahan are nice and the same goes with Lata.. they have there own place in singing they can't be compared !!!!

never heard a noor jahan song yet, so i dont know.... but i'd certainly like to know what criteria you use to compare singers... :)
I think its lata hands down, even though i dont have anything to prove her better over noor jehan. I just think that lata has such longevity. Her voice 50 years ago sounded like a teenagers, and still does. Noor jehans voice just.....grew different. As for hitting raags, both of them can do those equally well...but i would listen to lata over noor jehan if given the choice.
I think the Level Noor Jehan Achieved in 50's and 60's was never equalled by Lata.
Pleaaseeee .. hellllloooo .... Lata vs Madam ... i mean how can u even compare the two .. like how can you ?? .. Lata the best singer of sub-continent vs the truck driver's pass time Madam ... dont get me wrong .. i agree ppl have their own tastes .. but still!!hunh!

Both are very good, both have their own style, comparision is futile.
Noor Jehan was an established singer when Lata came along. In fact, one can see Noor Jehan effect on her early songs. But 'Ayega Anewala' wiped out competition, and established her independent style. Most songs, Noor Jehan sings in a really high pitch. Lata CAN sing in high pitch. Most songs with Shankar Jaikishen are in high pitch (so was with Jaidev). But Lata says she hated singing in that pitch.
Lata has more variety of pitch and tone. Also Lata was fortunate to have worked with really talented music directors like Madan Mohan.
Lata's voice also has changed, though not to a very large extent. The voice in 'O sajana.. barakha bahar aayi' is not the same as 'ho gaya hai tujh ko to pyar sajana'. but that is expected.
I have not followed Noor Jehan's career in great details. But I believe, it was a great loss that she migrated, for both bollywood and herself.
No I never called Lata a bad singer and I am agreed with you on having better muscian than what Noor Jehan had. Lata also had better film industry behind her. But when we were also making good movies and had good music directors, Noor Jehan had lots of great songs and it's my opion that some them were better than what Lata had ever sung. Like
AAB YAHAN KOI NAHIN KOI NAHIN AEY GA
JANEY WALEY RAY THARO ZARA RUK JAO
MUDUT HOEY HAY YAR KO MEHMAN KEYA HOAY
and If you listen to her song she sung in HEER RAHNJA.
and so on.
Don't take me wrong, I am not debating with you, may be I am wrong. The only negative point I can think of Noor Jehan is her Punjabi accent and her character.
I remember as a young lad my father(may his soul rest in peace) used to take me to the local barber for haircuts and almost everytime NoorJehan's song would be playing in the background. Thats all the good memories i have of those days AND I NEVER HAD A BAD HAIRCUT.
There are a lot of great Lata songs that I've heard.
To me the singer is not as important as the memories that get associated with particular songs sung by various singers.
