Who was Abu-Jehl?

I want to know who he was? Was he related to Prophet? Was he the chief of the tribe? Did he belong to the same tribe as him? Who were his sons? Any information will be appreciated. thanks.

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

His real name was Umer bin Hasham. He was very educated person of that time. He had so much knowledge about almost every thing. So people called him Abu-Hakam (Father of Knowledge). But when Prophet started preaching, he opposed him. He said," I know what Mohammed (PBUH) says is right, but my heart does not agree." Yes he didnot agree because he thought he had more knowledge than Sayyedna Mohammad. So thats why he is called Abu-Jahl by Muslims because he rejected the invitation of Islam logically. Is not it strange?

Regarding the question about relation with Sayyedna Mohammad, Yes he was his relative. Some say he was his real uncle (Chachaa). Some say he was the cousin of Sayyedna Mohammed. So by both opinions you can see he was his relative.

I know one of his sons, I dont know how many were they. Akarama bin Abu-Jahl. He embraced Islam and became companion of Prophet. Sayyedna Mohammed prohibited his companions to call Umer bin Hasham as Abu-Jahl in front of him. You can understand the reason why he prohibit them.

I think these informations will help you.

Regards

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

It is infact very strange. Strange that we still DO find many Abu Jahel and Umme Jahel all around us arguing that Muhammad:saw: had less knowledge than them.

There is one more thing about Umer Bin Hasshaam A.K.A Abu Jahel that Rasoolulah:saw: prayed to ALLAH:swt: to convert either of the two as Muslims… Ibn-e-Hashaam or Ibn-e-Khataab (AL Umer AL Farooq:razi: )

Ofcourse, Umer Ibn-e-Khataab:razi: turned out to be “Duaa-e-Rasool”

:saw:

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

I get so confused and irritated reading "ibn-e-this" and "ibn-e-that". So hard to keep track of these people.

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

time to read the history to learn to read this.

Brother I think you misunderstood. I said "HE THOUGHT". I didnot say he had more knowledge than him. Please read it again.

Thank you.

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

I was saying the same thing... I said we still see many people THINKING the same.

You miss-read my words.

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

And about Dua-e-Rasool I will say Jazzak Allah. Umer Bin Khitab or Khatab was Dua-e-Rasool.

Brother Anwaar, are you not amazed Why Prophet prayed for both Umers?
Here is the answer.
Umer bin Hashaam was one of the Leaders of Arabs. He had some knowledge of things either. So if he became muslim, he could help them by morally and by wealth too.

Umer bin Khattab was an educated person. He was one of those six persons in Arabs who can read and write. He was also so brave, he had more body strenth than anyone in his era. As you know when he embrased Islam, he aksed the Prophet and his fellow Muslims to offer prayer openly. He siad," When we are on right religion, why we should hide it?"

May Allah guide me to follow his foot steps. Amen

Re: Who was Abu-Jehl?

Whats so confusing? Are’nt people in our society known by their last names?
