Who says "Sati" is not practiced in India?????????

Re: Who says "Sati" is not practiced in India?????????

it is very sad.
and i wish the elderly lady, peace.
human cultures have made them think that the practices their cultures are the only way of living a life and making compensations for losses.
but, i do will certainly say that mud slinging, each others' cultures will not help. that goes for every one!!!
all cultures have good and bad. it is human nature to be this way - experiment with behaviors which are handed down to them, ingrained in their minds
as a conformity and norm etched in stone.
change will come, but it will come slow.
a woman giving up her life, due to a man she spent a part of it with, might be her sense of 'learnt' proper thing to do.
even though she could not have been targeted in the society as a
'young widow' to be mis-treated for the sin of being youthful, yet still.
the utter apathy is the reason why same cruelty and misery is brought on women time and again, due to societal pressures, wrong values, or due to savagery in men in their society.
these are deep issues and they must be handled not by blaming the victim, but studying the irrationality and bizarre sadistic, misogynist mentality due to which women become the prey for all these modes of abuse, humiliation and self-internalized over killing of their own selves.
same goes for all atrocities in all cultures around the world.
please, be more empathic in thinking thru before u all make negative and insensitive statements on each other.

no name calling, u folks hear me.
best,
dushwari

I have tried to clean up this thread to the best of my ability. Stick to the topic and take language related and all other issues elsewhere.

On a side note, it's interesting how someone mentioned it's a useless thread when I regularly see many others constantly bashing Islam and Muslims and coming up with all sorts of trash. Not only are there number of worthless posts, but even after clarifications are provided many are simply hell bent on debasing Islam and Muslims.

Re: Who says "Sati" is not practiced in India?????????

absolutely correct.

hope is thru consistent resolve, education and instilling a sense of personal accountalibity, people won't feel granted to do so against Islam and Muslims and their cultures.

It seems in the Hindu culture Cows are treated better than Ladies who loose their husbands. It seems Widows become a burden to society.

but cows can roam the bazars eating to their hearts content.

Like the American Indians expect their elderly to walk off into the widerness and become food for wild animals.

Re: Who says “Sati” is not practiced in India???

Absolutely correct! And if Hindus had Hudood and honor killing included…nothing might have left for an Indian woman.

Do you agree, Sir?

Re: Who says "Sati" is not practiced in India?????????

one more on the list...ha.....list badhti hi ja rahai hai, wake up buddy, see the world, in india, widows often lead a better life because they get all the pensions and all from the government. they can do whatever they wanna do, love, work, marrige, anything, in india, being a widow or a divorcee is no deal like in pakistan, where widows are beaten up or killed. there is not one field in india, where there are no women. in india, people dont indulge themselves in other people's personal lives. they just keep to themselves and mind their own business. yes, ocasionally women in india are reped, kaha nahi hota??? but the women are not scared enough to bring the case to court, unlike pakistan with the only exeption of mukhtar mai.and the criminals get the punishment, 5 years in jails, unlike pakistan who beat em up, or torture them

Re: Who says "Sati" is not practiced in India?????????

I dont think its done in main stream hindus anymore... only the ones in rural areas might still practice this of I may say so...
