Would you care to share about your cricket talents. For example, if you currently play (hard ball or tape?), if not playing, when was the last time you played?. What kind of pitches you play on?. Are you a batsman, bowler, all rounder. Your favorite fielding posiiton. DO you feel comfortable taking high catches, your favourite shot, etc.
Status: Currently playing 40-overs hard ball league cricket in USA.
Style: New ball seam bowler and middle order batsman. Have opened a few times with lots of success.
I love fielding at Point or short covers. Basically anywhere close to the batsman on the off side. I love taking catches and inducing run-outs. Famous for my pick n flick under-arm throws at the stumps.
And I love playing the square cut. Trying to improve my pull and leg side glance.
Me and my buddies play cricket every week here in Jersey. We have a cricket team, I am the wicket keeper. We are trying to get permission to build a cricket ground here.
I used to play for 3-4 hours every day before coming to university. I've played both hard ball (very little) and tapeball.
I've bowled everything from offspin to (Afridesque) leg spin to fast (more like medium pace). I can't take high catches that well. My ground fielding is pretty decent. Field in the covers. My defence is good, offence is nearly nonexistent. Favourite shot: cover drive or dab to thirdman. Worst shot: I'm a very bad hooker. We play tape ball on a concrete surface. With hard ball, I just bowl spin, we play on a baseball ground, so we have a pretty decent pitch.
The only aspect of my game that I'm really proud of is my running. Unlike almost everybody I've played with, I steal singles and push my partners hard to keep pace.
Well, I am a VERY GOOD cricketer. I think I stand a chance in any national side. I am a very geniune bowler. If the stupid bat does not come in between, I can can cleanbowl any batsmen in the world, and yes I don't get tired throwing wides as I am a very physically fit bowler.
In batting department, I don't disappoint anyone. Most of the time when I hit a ball, bat does graze the ball and I take a run. When I miss it, it most likely was going to be a 6 or 4 but then stupid ball hits the wicket. I see no other reason how any bowler can get me out. I am also a very good placer of the ball and good teaser of the fielder. The way I tease a fielder is to play a shot so the ball drops or dies just before the fielder so he has to move to get to the ball. All my life, I have played very strong shots with the hope that ball crosses the rope, I am sure one of these days it will definitely cross it.
In fielding department, I do pretty well. Many a times I do get hold of the ball, but man that ball is hard to hold on to. Sometimes I dodge the batsmen by pretending that I didn't catch the ball so they run for 2 or more thats how I get them runout, sometimes.
Do I not stand a chance in a cricketing side? :)

Besides above as humor, I now rarely play any cricket. Mostly played with tape-ball. After watching Phil Simmons sensational demolish of our batting lineup, I started to ball slower and move the ball with "finger" and it turned to be very dangerous for batsmen :), its hard to apply on hard-ball though :(.
I always tried to be an all rounder though. I enjoy placing the ball between the fielders or above them, very pleasing :)
Indians and Pakistanis have their own teams in Jersey. we some times play each other. There is another team that consists of best players from both sides. This team playes in tournaments in other states.
Almost all of big universities on east coast have their cricket teams, like UMCP, UNC, VT,JHU, UVA and NCSU. They have yearly tournaments and our VTCC ( Virginia Tech Cricket club) went thru to semis this year. In our team we have 10 Indians, 3 pakis and one frm each aus and england.
funguy, your cricketing approach is strikingly similar to mine.. good to see!
Am an opening bat and (recently slotted) wicketkeeper, after our regular keeper moved outta town midway through last season. Pre-2002 was a decently quick 1st-change seam bowler and was asked to don the gloves after being considered the safest person for the job.
When not keeping, absolutely relish fielding at slip, gully/backward point or third man. Also regarded as having one of the best throws in the league, and although I haven't won the award yet, am always one of the 2-3 contenders for best fielder of the season. Come May, will be leading the side this year if our current captain moves to Cali to pursue his Masters.
Well, i play cricket here in Ksa…i joined the league and still playing… well im still young but i was chosen to play in league…
i started playing cricket at a very early stage…
I was playing great as an all-rounder (captain) of the team but thought that our team was giving too nany extras so decided that i will go as a wicket-keeper and Alhumdullilah im going fine with it.. but if our bowlers arent bowling that gud, then ive 2 throw my gloves to bowl…
Its been going very good… i go as an opener and im a slogger…
And as far as i think… a captain can read the game as a wicket-keeper…
Have played in all kinds of pitches… and when needed… im a stroke-player…
I play cricket in dubai....for my school....we have inter-school tourneys quite often(under eighteen age group).....we play on cement pitches
