The mehndi is usually shared but people also have more than one mehndi. Each side their own... which is pointless. One should be plenty.
Shaadi is hosted by the girl's side and the guy's side are the guests - thus, paid by the hosts.
Valima is hosted by the guy's side and the girl's side are the guests - thus paid by the hosts.
