yes it Pakistan it only happenez cuz we give respectto our elderz and they also feel great if they r asked but if mom or dad wants to give the name to child there is no problem also
Elders ought to be consulted on such matters, mainly out of respect.
Mnay families in Pakistan give importance to their relatives regarding the selection of names. that is the diffrence between our culture and western cultures.
I don't know if there are any fixed practices. As Akif mentioned, people do it many different ways. The end result should be that child gets a good name.
Soliciting suggestions is not a bad idea. Final decision should lie with the parents. If they are too meek to allow others to take the final decision, then there is no point in whining about it either. If you are old enough to be a parent, you should be old enough to name the off-spring too.
