Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

What do you have and where do you live? Also, do you believe it should be done or that as Muslims we shouldn’t have it?

I live in UK and we do have xmas dinner, not bcos it’s a Christian feast day, but because it is a holiday where everyone has the day off and the whole country is feasting with traditional fare, and we wanna join in!

On the menu usually is
roast chicken and leg of lamb (stuff the turkey, it’s not appreciated in our house!),
gravy,
roast potatoes,
carrots,
fresh bread,
other stuff and of course…

good old…

SMELLY BRUSSELS SPROUTS!!! (Which no one eats but it’s tradition).

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

Well thats not ebven a christmas meal - Its just a normal everyday sort of meal. As long as your not singing christmas carols & pulling crackers whilst watching the queens speech.

My local butcher gets halal turkey in - might order it this year.

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

Most of the time, my family and the in-laws come over to ours and we have turkey with all the trimmings. We make leg of lamb as well, as some people aren't fans of turkey. Then the usual: different kinds of stuffing, assorted roasted veg, potatoes, gravy, chestnuts, spruced up sprouts, red cabbage, smoked salmon, duck liver paté (foie gras), lots of mince pies, yule log....etc and so forth.

And funnily enough, rarely are there any leftovers for me to enjoy a turkey sandwich the next day...but i guess we do have a lot of people round. :)

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

christmas dinner? what christmas? what dinner? we do NOT celebrate alHamdolillah :)

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

We may not celebrate Christmas for the reasons that the Christians do, but seeing as it's a holiday where the majority of people around the world get time off from work, our family (which is scattered around the world) uses it as an excuse to all get together, eat and enjoy each other's company for that limited time. It's something that i look forward to and savour each year :)

There's other stuff too, but i didn't write it to give others a chance to have their say. (Actually I can't even think of stuff at the mo).

Crackers, well, that's another story. We love them. It's a novelty. Especially funny when everyone swaps the contents and wears those silly hats!

Our local butcher does halal turkey too, but we pass, its always left over, we don't like it.

sounds good

Wow!!!

Stuffing is another thing that we have a little of, but not much bcos no one ereally likes it. It's there for tradition.

Maroush, just out of interest, can you get halal fois gras in this country?

I want to know where I can get a genuinely halal whole duck from around here. It's not available locally.

Yes, I agree. HOWEVER sometimes friends of the family etc can try to invite themselves over but we don't want them to come bcos it means we can't all site down together as an entire family bcos we have to attend to them, so we beat them off with a stick!

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

We sleep and made a traditional nihari dinner on Christmas and then sleep some more...

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

^ really????

Thanks for letting us know.

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

RH, my in-laws usually bring it over…they found a halal place that makes it over there, but i’m sure you can buy halal foie gras on the net as well…:hmmm:

As for the duck, have you tried Maroush Deli??

:rotfl:

sooo back to the question, we have xmas dinner either at our house or nans house every yr. we make roast chicken (hate turkey!) roast potatoes, roast parsnips, honey glazed carrots, brussel sprouts, yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce and gravy… yummm

for dessert its mince pies with custard or cream, i dont really like mince pies though and we have chocolate yule log which i luuurrve

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

I just buy a christmas bread and make some coffee... :D

PS: Just wondering how many christians around the world celebrate eids or slashing animals as for qurbani...lol

You should celebrate Christmas a little different than you celebrate eid. koi tou farq honaa cha’eeye naa ..:pcg:

Many, especially in Pakistan. Maybe they dont do qurbani but we dont light up a Christmas tree either.

See, with all due respect ... those who think that doing anything during Christmas time, that even remotely resembles 'Celebration' (feast, new clothes, decorations), is a big NO NO, should also avoid taking advantage of any pre or post Christmas sale.

All the desi families that I know, no matter how strict they are about not enjoying the holiday season cause its not Islamic are usually the first in line to take advantage of all the Christmas sale in the malls. That is double standard, I think.

Wow...you try to mixup christmas sale with the feast...hmmmmmmmmmm

Eid pay koun sota hai? The two Eids are probably the most busy days of the year in our household.

Christmas no worries - even the grocery stores are closed. One day just to chillax.

Re: Who makes Christmas Dinner at their place???

So just because somoene wants to have a special or formal dinner on christmas with their family means they are actualy CELEBRATING christmas? Seriously where do you people come up with these? :hehe:

Back to the original topic, I would love to get together with my family since that’s a day almost everyone is off and just have a nice meal together. Infact this year my family is planning to visit us and I am very much looking forward to it. Havn’t decided on the menu yet.
