Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Some of it seems suspect - such as the claim that in 1951 American senior officers used a special kind of bullet.
Other parts of the article also seem odd. The journalists write that the only place the assassin could have gotten the pakistani currency was from the US Embassy. One must wonder why the assassin could not have gotten money from, say, the Soviet Embassy or the British Embassy or the French Embassy?

I don't know whether this article is entirely true or not but to me it sounds 'kosher'. I would love to read the actual disclosed documents to find out more - but I would not put anything beyond the US. I think Zia was also a victim of their's. In order to get rid of him, the got rid of their own people too so no one could raise a finger on them - sounds too similar to me. Doesn't it?
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
The other way to view it is that in that incident, the leader of a country that was critical to humiliating the Soviet Union died, along with the representative of the country that provided the most important weapons for defeating the Soviet Union.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Sad to read the conspiracies involved.. He was one of the first sensible bihari leaders.. He did not talk violence. Altaf and bros caused mayhem.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
I guess you could say so - that's the thing with conspiracies or sabotage - there can be many many reasons sadly.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
*“**Anniversary of the death of Liaquat Ali Khan ***- Begum Liaquat Ali Khan, newly appointed Ambassador to the Netherlands and widow of the former Prime Minister, assassinated on October 16, 1951, issued a 500 word statement from the Hague calling for a solution to the crime and asking six leading questions: 1) “Why” was Liaquat murdered at the height of his popularity, “on the eve of … important policy decisions”; 2) “Why” was the assassin shot after he had already been overpowered; 3) “Why” was the police official responsible (for shooting the assassin) promoted instead of punished; 4) “Why” were “certain interested and influential persons within the country … anxious to remove Liaquat”; 5) “Why” is the Quad-i-Azam’s name “being subtly and unjustly ignored”; 6) “Why” are these questions not answered. Liaquat’s son, Wilayat Ali Khan, also issued a statement in which he pointed to the political and economic deterioration of Pakistan in the past three years and called upon the Central and Provincial Governments to cooperate with the newly appointed foreign expert, C.P. U’ren in his investigation. The Karachi Muslim League organized a public meeting at Jehangir Park, Karachi, to commemorate the anniversary. The principal speaker, Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, spoke generally on the “economic deterioration” of the country, provincialism, and eulogized the former Prime Minister. He claimed that Liaquat had been pressing for certain reforms at the time of his assassination. Nishtar was followed on the platform by Mohsin Siddiqi, General Secretary of the Karachi Muslim League adn by S. M. Taufique, President of the Karachi Muslim League.”
The above excerpt is from the following American secret document that has now been declassified.

It should be, noted wife of Liaqat Ali Khan doesn’t say anything of the involvement of Pashtunistani leaders. Pashtunistani leaders at that time were in prison. However, Rana Liaqat Ali points to some high officials in Pakistani government to be against Liaqat Ali Khan and being anxious to remove him.
Common perception at that time was, Rana Liaqat Ali Khan hinted at Ghulam Mohammad ( who later became governer general), Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani, Iskanar Mirza, etc. However, it is a fact that after Liaqat assasination, the above group of civil servents took over. Later, Army grabbed power. This might have gone to the advantage of American, who wanted a strong defense alliance of the Islamic countries against communist expansion under American leadership and needed more survile govt in Islamic countries.
The confedential/secret American documents now declassified can be found at:

Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Syed Akbar, Liaqat's Assasin, was a fugitive wanted by Afghanistan for waging rebellion against Afghan govt. In 1944, he had led an armed rebellion agaist Afghan govt but after defeat had crossed into British India. The British had him settled in Abbotabad and had started his mothly stipend. After the partition, Pakistani govt had continued his stipends.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Ghulam Mohammad, who became governer general after Liaqat’s assasination, was so much close to Americans that one author writing on American role in Pakistan, titles the chapter of his book on Ghulam Mohammad as “Ghulam” (slave). He used to approach American officials and tell them what brilliant ideas he had to devise defenses against the menace of communism and what asset he could be to Americans.
And the following declassified American secret document discloses how THE INTERIOR MINISTER ISKANDAR MIRZA OF PAKISTAN gave information to American ambassader on the important changes in the govt.
http://www.icdc.com/~paulwolf/pakistan/mirza24dec1954.htm
In the following declassified document, Iskandar Mirza, the then interior minister of Pakistan, told Americans how could they “fix” Mohammad Ali Bogra, the then Pakistani prime minister (the prime minister was lax on decisively cracking down on Fazl-u-l Haq, the Bangali leader, whom American suspected to have leftist inclination). This shows what contempt the West Pakistani leaders had for Bangalis. Note also, the American ambassadar calls the comment of Iskandar Mirza against his own prime minister as treasonable.

And this declassified American document shows how was Iskandar Mirza in liason with American and how he kept Americans informed of the development.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Unfortunately, when some Pakistanis write, they write with partison intentions to give history a certain twist. Either he didn't read all the declassified American documents or he didn't mention other documents for fear that that will reveal shadowy political history of the country.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
At the time of assasination, Iskandar Mirza was defense secretary, Ayub Khan, army chief, and Ghulam Mohammad and Gormani ministers.
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
The first Army Coup in 1959 by Ayub, was carried out because Sikander Mirza was selling out Kalat to Iran and/or Russia, atleast that was the inside story behind the Coup. Wallah ho Alam if it is true or not!
Re: Who killed Liaquat Ali Khan?
Who knows what is true - ? It's another one to add to the mystery list which have many conspracies spiralling around. If some of what Last of the Dinosaurs has posted is true, it saddens me to say this but the Pakistani leaders have all been crooks and only looking out for self interest and self promotion. How sad indeed.
