I like Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi in Urdu and Amar Jaleel in Sindhi.

Jhumpa Lahiri....she has two books which are a collection of short stories: "Interpreter of Maladies" and "Unaccustomed Earth"....you'll really like both.

Namesake is a full length novel, but still a good read! I'm a huge fan of all her books

^ Yeah, I remember reading The Namesake. Oddly enough, The Namesake wasn't my cup of tea. I don't know why but it seemed rather off to me, not in Lahiri's usual style. The sections dealing with the character of Maxine were quite superficial and more like an exercise in name dropping than anything else. I also found it quite preachy, which Lahiri usually is not.

In The Interpreter of Maladies you’ll come across this story that will make you go…“WTH???” It makes me laugh because it’s the one that tends to stand out in people’s minds. My sister and my friend who read it were like “what the …how the…heck happened.” It’s the one with the girl who so badly wants to get married and her neighbors help her out. I’m curious to know if you, Muqawee, will also react in one of the following ways or maybe a combination:

Don't have a favorite but I've read short stories by Flannery O'Connor, Zora Neale Hurston, Gloria Naylor, Roaldh Dahl is fun and quirky author, Jhumpa Lahiri, Alice Hoffman, LM Montgomery, Walter Dean Myers.
Out of the list, I enjoyed reading Gloria Naylor's book, The Women of Brewster Place the most. Also like Zora Neale Hurston's writing. Alice Hoffman's novels contain short stories that all trace back to a common beginning..and they progress through time.
