Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

Who is it? and Why?

Re: Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

The Nizams of Hyderabad
More info on [wiki](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/Nizam (Urdu: نظام*), a shortened version of Nizam-ul-Mulk (Urdu: نظام*الملک), meaning Administrator of the Realm, was the title of the native sovereigns of Hyderabad state, India, since 1719, belonging to the Asaf Jah dynasty. The dynasty was founded by Mir Qamar-ud-Din Siddiqi, a viceroy of the Deccan under the Mughal emperors from 1713 to 1721 and who intermittently ruled under the title Asaf Jah in 1724, and After Aurangzeb’s death in 1707, the Mughal Empire crumbled and the viceroy in Hyderabad, the young Asaf Jah, declared himself independent.) among other places.

Mainly because they took a stand and kept their separate identity. I am sure they had some good and bad in them just like any other ruler but over most of history talks about them with respect.

Re: Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

Mine is Sheer shah Suri,

Rather then building stupid palaces, he built infrastructure(roads/mail-system)

Amazing. What you think of him.

Re: Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

Mine are Chatrapati Sivaji -The founder of the great Marata empire.

Balaji BajiRao-The Marata empire reached it's apex state during his time

Shershah- For his pragmatic approach. (The Rupee or Rupaiyah came in to existence during his time).

Ranjit Singh- The great Sikh warrior who was a great military campaigner aswellas an administrator.

Krishnadevarayar-The Vijayanagara empire was taken to new heights during his rule.A liberal sensible pragmatic emperor.Still the remanants of Hampi make me feel the majestic glory of his empire.

The birish Governor General william Bentick who abolished Sati.

Sri Chitira Tirunal Balarama Varma who opened all Hindu temples in Travancore ,Karela for all Hindus irrespective of their castes. His decree is known as the second Magna-Carta.

Re: Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

They were one of the prominent rulers in the course of Indian History.Originally founded in Maharastra and later conquered and ruled many places of India and spread up to Lahore.Lahore was in their control during Abdali's offensive.

They were instrumental in the decline of Mughal rule in India.

You know whenever I get time to visit any place during my official trips ,the first thing I do is to go and visit any historical spot in that place. It gives a great feeling.

Ranjeet Singh turned badshai mosque into his horse stable.

I know the feeling I lived next to Lahore Fort for a month, in a camp.

Re: Who is your fav. ruler (pre 1947 era)

I am an Aryan :)

What about Rohailas!!!

So thats why you love GS!!!

On top of my mind are Raja Raja Chola I(985-1014) and his son Rajendra Chola(1012-1044). Both were great and just rulers, patrons of literature, arts and architecture. They built a strong navy and Rajendra made conquests in far south east asia. Tanjore Big temple built with granite stones is a standing testimony to the golden period of RajaRaja's rule.

I'm avid history reader n I love this topic.

None. Why would anyone be fond of a leader?
