Seven kids among 11 killed on Basant day

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

This is so sad... yet there are incidents like this every year. Plus it only happens in poor neighbourhoods right? so no one really notices do they? People are too busy having fun.

What is the point of Basant anyway?

Surely it can't be any good if this is happening on a regula yearly basis.

Musharraf celebrates Basant in Lahore
LAHORE: President Pervez Musharraf spent an entire day celebrating Basant at different venues in Lahore, where he spent the entire day. He arrived in the provincial capital Saturday evening and went to the corps commander’s house where he met army officers. Later, he went to Haveli Asif Jah, Choona Mandi to attend a state-organised Basant function. First Lady Sehba Musharraf, Khalid Maqbool, Punjab governor, and Pervez Elahi, Punjab chief minister, accompanied him. However, in anticipation of the president’s arrival, the Mall Road was blocked for all kinds of traffic, making it difficult for commuters to reach their destinations. On Sunday morning, he attended an army piper bands’ showcase at Fortress Stadium, where bands from 25 different army units entertained the crowd for an hour and a half. Later, the president flew by helicopter to Governor’s House, where he had lunch and enjoyed kite flying for a couple of hours. He left for Islamabad in the evening. staff report

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

yea they should just ban the kite flying in residential area. Only should be allowed in big parks etc…

Personaly i think basant is for pointless and retarded.
Ever year soo many people die on this day.

Yeahhhhhhh lets celebrate basant(sarcasm)

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

So Basant is like the Indian "Uthraan"?

If so, then the kite strings...oh my god...even after the actual event, there is this string all over...you have to really watch where you are wlaking!
I cut my feet a few times when out shopping...nothing to serious thankfully.....

The thing is there is no regulation...although even with regulation there will still be accidents (think of the fireworks in the UK!)

Is it true that this string contains shreds of glass?

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

Yes powdered glass is glued onto the strings...........but the real killer is the metal strings that people use and results in electrocution and throat slits.
I have attended a lot of Basant Festivals and to be honest it is a lot of fun especially basant nights is some crack and lot of people depend on the revenues generated from this but nothing is worth the loss of life that we all have witnessed. I guess if the Government persists with having this festival then stringent laws must must be enforced without distinction. There should be places dedicated to kite flying so we dont see people running around on streets.

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

Strict laws need of the hour......but do we have laws working in other spheres? None...Laws in Pakistan work only against the poor.

What happens to all the killers, rapists and corrupt ministers and politicians... We all know well..

Re: Who is responsible? !!!

Totally Agreed
