Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

Come on then guppies which team do u think has the best fifth bowler?

That reminds me who is our fifth bowler Razzaq? Malik or Afrridi?

Help me out here

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

ozzies ozzies ozzies. they've got a pretty picture purfect team. yeah, they've stumbled inthe last one week or so, but the reason it looks so baad is cos we've come to expect a guarenteed victory frm'em every single time.

1mcgrath
2gillespie
3kasprowicz
4warney/hoggie/macgill

5 - watson/symonds

tht they're so good just goes to be proven by the fact tht a WORLD class bowler like Brett Lee has to sit out as a 12th man for sucha long period of time.
there r other guys like ian harvey, andy bichel, brad williams etc etc who r fighting for a place in the SQUAD rather than the team. in any other country these guys would be in the startin 11 without a question.
to top it all, most of their players also hav genuine all round ability, to bail them out of tough spots.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

OZzies ozzies ozzies?? Sir ji, This thread is about one dayers. Take a look at Watson’s and Symonds’ bowling record before you start praising oh-so-mighty aussies for non-existent reasons. They have best four bowlers only in tests. In one dayers they have to rely on Mcgrath’s and Lee’s break throughs so that their part-timers can eek out a few overs. Their lack of fifth bowling options have resulted in quite a few defeats in recent times when WI, NZ, ENG, PAK etc all have beaten them in last 5-6 months.

Ian Harvey was probabaly the most over-rated cricketer australia fielded for quite a considerable time. He was an OK one day player and thats about it. Watson/Symonds? please spare me for tonight :hehe: I already had good laughs over the weekend thanks to Ashraful and Pieterson.

I will agree that in tests they have ‘best four bowlers’ attack but this thread is not about tests. Aussie one day team is not invincible and I am not saying just because they stumbled over the weekend. It has been evident since last year. I will quote Talha here from other thread ‘whole world is catching up’. It is time media starts treating aussies as humans.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

To answer 'desired' question, it is quite confusing here. Pakistan is probably the only one day team right now that can claim to have three quality all rounders in Malik Razzaq and Afridi and they often regulary share 20 overs (sometimes more) between them with only Afridi consistently bowling his full quota (and thats mainly because of restriction on Malik). Once again please dont think clarkes, symonds, sehwags, collingwoods and Agarkars comes under the category of all-rounders). Right now any one of this pakistni trio can make the team either as a batsman or bowler. So we basically play with six good oneday bowling options and thats a big luxury for us. This is why our one day unit is bringing consistent success as compared to our test one.

Looking elsewhere, Maybe new zealand can come close in that category with the likes of Cairns and Styris.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

Razzaq/Afridi/Malik depends......All quality all rounders (One area where Pak dominates)

Chris Gayle is another player who is not that much good with bowling but used at times as a 5th bowler in WI squad. He was named in the 10 all-rounders list from which ICC selects some as their best.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

^ But WI play with three regular bowlers up until recently. You are right. with the introduction of Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle, they do have formidable fourth and fifth bowling options. Maybe better than NZL.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

Lets look at all the teams.

Australia

Symonds/Clarke

England

Collingwood

India

Tendulkar/Sehwag/Yuvraj

New Zealand

Scott Styris

Pakistan

Malik/Afridi

South Africa

Kallis

Srilanka

Jayasuriya

West Indies

Gayles/Hinds

I would say Malik and Afridi have done the most damage in ODIs for the past year.

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

*Australia have the worst fifth bowlers. What the hell are you talking about naved? Harvey, Symonds, Hogg; they are all crap! Pakistan excels in that department in one dayers. *

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

there was a time when saqlain was our fifth bowler :(

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

yeah guys but the thing where i guess us pakistanis fall back are on is that our other four bowlers are not as good as say the english/aussies/south africans? sami/shoaib are no comparison to the likes of mcgrath/pollock/harmison when it comes to containing the batsmen so even though we might have a decent 5th bowler we might strugle when the two S's makes their comeback with the economy rate being on the high side?

Re: Who Has The Best Fifth Bowler

I second that. Aussies have the worst fifth bowler. Infact if you ask any captain from other sides, they will tell you that in ODIs the only chance they stand to score against Aussies is during the middle overs since their bowling is pathetic in the middle overs. If one team survived with 7 wickets in hand till 25th over than they have a very good chance to play intelligently and take the RR to 7+ in those middle overs. Aussies only try to coupe with this shortcoming with their extra ordinary fielding.

That was the formula that Inzi tried in NatWest last January.
