You can give whatever perspective, Eastern or Western.
I don’t know the answer, there are various aspects.
Women are judged a lot based on their attractiveness. Sure, men get judged on that too, but not so much.
But then again, an ugly woman can use makeup, or get their hair done, or going to an extreme, get plastic surgery. It’s hard for men to do that.

I would say 'ugly' woman. Ladies are wooed; they are not the wooer.
For women its looks; for men its how much they make.

True, in today's society an ugly woman has it worse than her male counterpart -- the quintessential ugly man. The usual culprits? Institution of marriage and onus of sexual shame placed squarely on women. Take these two out of the picture, and soon you will see parity in the misfortune of both ugly men and women. In that Amazonian utopia, 100% of the women would be banging only 2% of the uber-alpha males and having their babies. While the ugly men, like you and me, would be have to be content with a bottle of jergens and a boot-legged copy of Saving Ryan's Privates.

I can name many actors who may not have the most beautiful looking faces, but they the way they carry themselves is amazing
You pick the ugliest person from stereet corner and through grooming and what not, you can have a great looking person
if someone is considered ugly, that just means that person is not taking care of himself/herself

The magic of cosmetics doesn't work on most people, those who unfortunately aren't pleasant looking don't look much better with make-up either, only prehaps a bit better, since painting your face will only enhance of what you have, not change you into J-Lo!...
BTW those who get rejected based on their looks, God has better plans for them!...amen

Ugly men ofcourse... Ugly men cant get any action whatso ever... (unless they have exceptionally outstanding personality, or money up the wazoo! Howard Stern for instance...)
Ugly Women can still get action, because there's always some desperate guy out there willing to pounce on anything that will give him half a chance...

I usually dont call anyone ugly for something that is beyond their control. We dont make our face features or height etc. So if call someone ugly for his/her features (looks) or height... I am actually calling God's creation ugly. I cannot say that, God doesn't create anything ugly, its us humans make it so.
