Do you think your online anonymity can be at stake if you reveal your company’s name? Or in case of students, your university’s name?
I was just thinking that even though I know what profession a lot of the GS members belong to, I don’t actually know who they work for. So it just got me thinking why everyone prefers to hold back this piece of information? Nothing wrong in doing so, of course, but would you ever reveal online your company’s/university’s name?

Most of my friends on GS know which university I’m studying at. The name and degree too. Even you know too =p
About my company name and who I work for.. I think 3-4 people around here know who I work for. Even know where my workplace is. But these are people who I have a connection in real life. The rest of the people here are strangers for me and I wouldn’t want to reveal anything to them unless I know them too well.

I wouldn’t mind saying where I work or where I studied. Though there are certain jobs where their contract states that you’re not allowed to disclose who you work for.

a lot of people are under NDA’s so they’d rather not get into conversations where they have to say what specific projects they’re working on etc
