If you are looking for greener pastures within your organization should you talk to your boss first. If you tell the boss you want to move out of his organization and are not interested in working with him/her then the boss might become either hostile to you , going forward he/she might not be interested in advancing you in his department.
He/she might not give a good reference to the other hiring manager. I was never at a crossroad where I would look for a different position to get out of the rut I am in now. Therefore I do not know what to do ? How to handle this ?
it totally depends on the situation, I had bosses who openly supported my career progression and wanted me to think about what my next steps were and the ones after and see how I can prepare and position myself. on the other hand i have worked for people who were only in it for themselves and saw ppl just as their tools, and if they felt someone may have other aspirations, they would railroad the individual.
so what is your boss like, and what is your relationship like...a good boss can be a very strong advocate for internal moves.
My boss recently changed , he was hired for this position from outside. I have no aspiration to be in the position he is, that is not my expertise and I do not like to do what he does. He is a supplier manager and has no IT background. I have strong IT background and want to further my career in that area. He is busy in the game of strengthening his own position in this company.
He is too busy and I on the other hand do not have much to do because company is gearing up for a big implementation which will be kick started soon. He is not into sharing his responsibilities and burden although I have made him offers, more than a couple of times , to share his burden. The senior leadership thinks that they need my position and my service and have gotten more than positive feedback about me from my former bosses and my customers who are all internal to organization.
boss is seeing you as a tool to further his own agenda only so unless he things you going to a diff group will earn him influence and an ally in that group he may see it as a sign of weakness that his people are leaving his team. You have to figure out how he clicks, if the former point does not hold then you simply go directly to people and not get into details with him.
