Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

Married couples with both families living in the same city…who do you pray your Eid salaat with (if families pray in different mosques). Do you rotate back and forth between families or is there a preference for hubby’s fam? My hubby seems to think it’s the latter, which doesn’t seem fair to me. Note that we’re born and bred in the West, so I don’t really know what the norm is in Pakistan.

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

norm in Pakistan = women do not go out to pray Eid salaat.

Salaat is for God not for your or your Hubby's family. Please do not make it another domestic politics issue.

Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

Before kids, we would pray at the largest Eid namaz gathering in our area, about 30 minutes from where we lived…both my family and his family would go there too so no conflict of interests lol, but there would always be a tussle between us over whose family to go home with/visit first.

After kids, we got actively involved with a smaller masjid about 2 miles from our house, against my wishes. i didn’t want to break from tradition of praying Eid namaz with my family. But I must admit it is now much easier to handle with small children, and my husband and I have made bonds there together as a unit, independent of either of our families. After I became a mother, especially, I learned that I can’t keep forcing my memories, norms and traditions from bachpan/childhood upon my husband and kids. It’s time to make new memories and traditions for our children that will be there very own

It’s not worth it to get in a tiff over. There is nothing unfair about alternating which side of the family to pray Eid namaz with.

(And I am also born and raised in the US, so I understand where you’re coming from)

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

Lately, I've seen a lot of women going for Eid namaz.

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

I'd decide where to pray Eid salat based on a number of factors:

  1. Proximity to where I'm staying
  2. Punctuality in start time
  3. Actual start time (earlier is better)
  4. Availability of parking

And the wife doesn't go for Eid salat anyway. Since the past few years, the women of our family don't go. So there would be no issue of my vs her family.

I though these type of threads belonged in Religious Forums

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

i have no in-laws...thank God!

i pray with my bro and bhabhi and their kids. :)

no in-laws, no-issues, no-problemo! :)

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

In our family as well, women don't go. it's what I saw growing up so after getting married - its what i followed since i don't have a mother in law or a sister in law that lives with us.

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

In Pakistan ???

Re: Who do you pray Eid salaat with?

Hopefully, one eid prayer is behind a male imam while the next is behind a female imam .

TO BE FAIR..
