In three serious newspapers of Pakistan namely Nation Lahore, DAWN Karachi and Frontierpost Post a reader says that terrorisim in Pakistan has increased and terrorists have spread their tentacles from Karachi to Waziristan. He says though Police and Security agencies are making efforts but fave failed. The learned writer suggests that since now local governments are functioning MNAs, MPS and Nazims etc should be involved so that in constituencies where terrorists plan and operates, the elected representatives and Nazimeen could watch, monitor and suspicious activity in their constituency. This is the most ridiculous suggestion even I have ready.
Mr. Mohamed A.R. Galadari is Editor in Chief and Managing Director of Middle East’s largest English language daily Khaleej Times Dubai which is also widely read in Pakistan and India. In his front page editorial appearing on 2.8.2004 he writes as under:
Quote: “It was very necessary for politicians of Pakistan to clear the streets of Karachi and restore law and order. The other day one of the top politicians of Pakistan almost lost his life. During the past there had been attempts on head of the state. Now politicians are paying the price for the mistakes committed by their predesessors who had allowed thugs and dacoits to roam the streets. There were politicians who had created parties on ethnic grounds like MQM which had the patronage of General Zia. And we all saw how thugs were harassing the citizens day and night; and also the business community Anybody who was successful was at the receiving end, with gangs going against them, harassing them and making life miserable for them. But these thugs were not touching politicians. Now however the scenario has changed. It reminds me of a story relating to Indira Ghandi. She created two devils; one Bindranwala or Khalistan Movement and two Parbhakaran or Tamil Tigers. And what happened. One devil killed her. The other devil killed her son. The Governments of Ziaul Haq, Benazir and Nawaz all kept quiet and did little to restore law and order in Karachi. They allowed the situation to drift. And now politicians are paying the price and they have no control of their own over these thug created by themselves as these thugs are now targeting the politicians themselves who created and patronaged these thugs.. We used to go to Karachi as tourist, Karachi was more developed than our Duabi ”. Unquote
An MQM elder one accepted that initially its used street loofers, thugs to strengthen the parties. Today we do know these thugs are taking Bhattas (monthly) from shoppers and business community and as a party it is giving bad name yet the Party leadership is helpless as these field workforce is not in hands of party leadership. Ashfaq Ahmed is one example. MQM which came in the name of poor man and to remove injustices and “zulams” is the most cruel and corrupt party. Once I made a complaint against a government department with a very genuine reason. Instead of taking note of my injustice the party middle level party leadership sent a Klashonkove holder to my home at midnight asking my old father to come to MQM office where he was told why your son had made complaint. Unfortunately the head of the Department against which complaint was made was a MQM ethnic supporter. Karachi can be restored back what it was in 1950s and 1960s but it can be done only when such a person would sit on the Chair who does has “love” for his chair but only and only love for the country. Benazir, Nawaz, Musharraf all have love for the chair hence they could not and would never ever be able to bring back Karachi what it used to be let alone making Karachi a Hong Kong or Singapore. Till such a man comes in power or is not sent by GOD forgiving our sins, if the present Ruler who considers his own sole personal wisdom the only right and honest for the Karachi, the heart of the country, then he should personally request retired General Babar once again to come forward forgetting his attachment with PPP to take over control of Karachi. Provided the present ruler gives free hand to General Babar in the larger interest of the country. And General Babar I am sure in the larger interest of the nation would accept it detaching himself from PPP. This is the only solution to Karachi problems unless GOD has wished something else.
