Who Are These 'Boys' in Paradise?

Mr Andhra is a cow one of your gods? And who is krishna? And who is Kali mata? And who is that monkey i forget his name?I love the story about the boy with the elephant head. Please tell me how many gods do u belive in.

Andrha,
Richard Burton travelled extensively and was known as an accomplished orientalist. However he is dated. He was an addict to opium and was a self-proclaimed homosexual. So it is not surprising that his translation would be slanted that way. This ayat is usually referred to by anti-islamic sites. I think given the arab customs and culture, and the translations given to you from other sites why not accept that it is a fair good normal and healthy description of heaven. It is unfair to read into it suggestions of homosexuality. Historically, homosexuals have tried finding references in literature and history to justify that homosexuality is 'normal'.

There is little doubt that in the Quran, the punishment meted out to gomorrhaites is given and that homosexuality is explicitly condemned and prohibited.

rin,
Open a separate thread for Hindu Gods.
Old Lahori,
Richard Burton, I don't know. But there is atleast one more translation I quoted that says the same thing.
And it is by NJ Dawood, apparently a noted scholar.

Andhra, I don't like to attempt to explain any Ayats (or any other religious edicts) when I'm not a a qualified authority.

If you were sincere in seeking an answer, you would seek a scholarly opinion and not post it here at Gupshup for ppl to speculate on.

Andhra, you should log on to this site
www.islamicity.com

I think that’s what I have been doing. HOwever if Guppies feel a well published Translation from a well known Publishing house like Penguin or a curriculm of VIrginia Tech, from which I quoted are not good authorities there is little I can do about it!!

But whetever, i suppose, that since only the purest of the pure can ever get into heaven, there is no fear of sodomy.
I also know that the Koran like any other Holy Book, is open to interpretation. The koran is very poetic, its possible that this passage is just something symbolic, or it may mean something more profound which needs to be understood (if possible) within context.
lastly, I highly doubt the Koran would espouses homosexuality…

I am Adnan… hear me squeek

Andhra,

I took the liberty of opening another thread to answer your question.

There is No Spoon

WA. 76:18 mentions VILDAN not GHULMAN. However, both of the terms are used in the Qur'an [56:17, 52:24,13:23 etc]. The correct translation of VILDAN [think Awlad] is children in relation to their parents. GHULMAN refers to teenage children in relation to their parents. The Qur'an is not talking about some unseen paradise in these verses. It is giving you matchless advice on rearing children in this life. Details will be presented when QAIU reaches that point.
Thanks for your interest and the querry.
