Who are Mewati?

Read in a book that after 1857, Mughals princess had to work as miads in homes of Mewatis and Jaats.

So, who are Mewati? From above statement, it seems that they were from lower class during Mughal era.

Are they Pashtuns? Punjabi from Delhi?

I've been assuming Mewati as fruit-sellers (KunjRe in Delhi's language)... as Mewaat = Mewa jaat in Sindhi

But obviously there were Hindus and later they accepted Islam like Rajputs. Some of them wrote Rana with their name. I think most of the Rajput use Rana with their name, if i am not wrong.
Most of the Maiwati use Mayo with their name.

Mewat is an area in India which comprises partt of Rajasthan and Gujrat, as far as i know!

By this analogy, Mewatis were nanihaali rishtadaars of Mughal princess
