If I knew the guy, I would go ahead and tell my parents. If I didnt know him at all, it really depends on other things too including the guy; in that case I would probably get to know him on my own and then if I feel something could come out of it (worthwhile) then tell my parents myself . I dont think its a good idea to send the guy to your parents when they have no idea who this guy is cuz they would not be too happy, or at least I dont think they would be.
As for the guy, I really hope he is not so stupid to go up to my parents without asking me even once unless he is a family friend or close relative cuz then 'other' issues arise.
