Re: Which stocks to invest in?
do a covered call writing for GM.
Also, short SIRI.
Invest in TIPs, andm like MM said, buy gold to protect yourself from inflation.
Re: Which stocks to invest in?
short SIRI? 2006 to 2010 are satellite radio years. If your investment goal is long term, accumulate both XMSR and SIRI.
Re: Which stocks to invest in?
I've been pondering this question for the last couple of weeks.......
Richard Bernstein of Merril Lynch whos probably the single best market forecaster around (even better than Buffett) says the US Markets will be flat this year, besides which the coming trouble for US dollars will dent the american economy.
I would stick to investing in Canada, our commodities tie our economy strongly to global and especially Asian economic performances, which should stay strong in teh medium term by anyones projections.
So to make a long story short.......
Some excellant equities from the TSX (Toronto)
Major financials especially BMO and National Bank of Canada could be very valuble if a majority government is elected and bank mergers procede as planned
Bow Valley Energy - currently trading at $4.98 should be $7.50 be years end expected to double or trible revenues by 2007
Look at Cygnal Technologies (CYN) and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (SWP) for some very promising but Risky picks.......

Re: Which stocks to invest in?
what is your investment goal? how much time do you want to spend managing your portfolio?
Re: Which stocks to invest in?
I really don't have an investment goal. I just wanted to use some of the money I've put aside. I want my investments to be simple and manageable and follow Islamic guidelines.
Re: Which stocks to invest in?
when do you think you will want the money back?
i'm not familiar with Islamic guidelines on this, but if interest bothers you, you might want to look thru the balance sheets of the companies you like and make sure they dont have long term debts.
Re: Which stocks to invest in?
Which set of Islamic guidelines? My father works in Islamic banking and one of the obstacles he faces is that there are often disagreeing guidelines issued by different scholars on which companies are halal/haraam.
