Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
The idea is to find the best among Shan masalas and share recipes. The intention is not to discourage anyone from using what they find best in their own personal situation.
Many people certainly don't have any prejudices against boxed masalas in general, but some people do.
Again, the idea is to share experiences with Shan masala - not to bash packet masalas or working women or women who use their own masalas.
Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
i havent seen anyone bashing. there are many working women who use their own spices and many stay home who use shan.
anyhow, chaat masala is another one i like to keep in my pantry. sprinkle little when they curry is done, leave the curry on dum for couple mins.

Dear Jhansi Ki Rani :
I don't know how it is where you live, but people in US love store bought spices. Although I have no idea how often most people use it.
My purpose was to get some good recipes and I already found it.
Thanks for the fight and happy cooking!

Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
I ve always found the National ones better than the Shaan. Color, aroma, taste, all wise.
Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
I use it for nihari and sometimes for biryani. but honestly, all you need for most things is salt,red/black pepper, corindar powder, cumin powder, garam masala, turmeric.
Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
now you have moved from working women to people living in US. the point i was trying to make was: you dont
need to belong to a certain category to use box mix vs spices from scratch. different people different styles, making your own spice mix doesnt mean you are a stay at home person or living in pakistan, similarly using a box mix doesnt mean you are a working woman or living abroad.
ps. i am glad you were able to find useful reipies in this thread.
Happy cooking!

Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
I tried Shan's Yakhni Pulao masala, used the whole packet (and it wasn't salty at all) and my yakhni pulao was super delicious! Much better than if I had used masalas separately.
Re: Which Shan masala is the best?
I like their Sindhi Biryani, chapli kabob, haleem, chaat masala, and chicken Jalfrezi. also I dont completely rely on the packet I use household spices as well then add Shan later
