Hope someone can help me, I have the Bare Minerals foundation and I use it for weddings parties etc but I am also looking for a quick powder foundation compact for when I don’t want to spend too much time fixing my foundation. I had a look in the shops yesterday and was a bit overwhelmed as to which one I should go for. I looked in Boots and they have several compact foundation applied with sponge. I also looked at the MAC counter and hte lady told me they had the MAC studio fix compact , Urban Decay also do one.
I looked at reviews on youtube but they werne’t really helpful. I tihnk if an asian can recommend it may be better for me. I have combination skin, I don’t want a really heavy cakey foundation just something for more casual outings but also it should be good and easy to use.
What do you use? Which do you suggest? I will be going in later on this week and have some tried onto my face and hopefully that would help me make up my mind but in the meantime any recommendations would be great.
Thanks
Probably going to be in the minority here because everyone seems to hate on MAC these days but I think studio fix powder is pretty great and has a good range of shades. I have tried others (Chanel, Laura Mercier). It was the first proper foundation I bought and I still use it. I use a solid cream foundation very lightly on my cheeks and chin to even them out and them SFpowder everywhere else. However, I do also set all my foundation with a finishing powder as well.
My mum also really likes it. I tried to give her my Chanel Mat Lumiere when her SFPowder ran out but when I asked her how she found it she was like 'I want the other one again, you can have this one back'.
Oh I forgot to mention Bobby Brown also do one but again I need to have it tested on my face to know what its like unless anyone already tried it. Oh and why is MAC not liked so much ? I thought it was a top fav brand:/
You should have them tested anyway. And leave it on, keep checking it throughout the day to see how it looks. If you can get a sample, even better. If you take a small container for a sample, you have more chance of getting one.
MAC is very popular in the real world. But online, people like to be beautiful and unique snowflakes.
Anyway, do try as many as possible. The same product doesn't work well for everyone. I always try to get samples and test them out for a few days.
As Stoppit suggested, I was going to suggest the Studio Fix foundation as well. I don’t have a powder foundation per say, but I do use the Skinfinish Natural to set my makeup sometimes and since it’s baked, it can be used wet for more coverage. Used dry, it doesn’t give much coverage.
Check this video out, I think it’ll be really helpful and he uses Studio Fix
^ I second the Dior powder foundation recommendation. It is one of my favorites. Not cakey/heavy at all, but still provides decent coverage and can be used as a finishing powder as well.
Some others that I have tried and liked are Lancome Dual Finish Versatile Powder makeup and MUFE Duo Mat powder foundation. I do think these are all pretty much comparable, but I have a slight preference for the Dior and MUFE.
I use the bobbi brown one. It's good as a setting powder over my liquid foundation. As I use a very light coverage one the powder adds an extra coverage. I use it on it's own sometimes too and really like it. I'm a fan of BB and find the shades and tones of the foundations suit me perfectly.
Ok lovelies, thankss eeeeeeeeever so much for all your replies and great advice, I went out to the shopping centre and tested all of the ones except Bobby Brown, I actually forgot to go to House of Fraser that stock it. I tried the high street range in Boots, Max factor , Maybelline etc then I looked at the Christian Dior one but it was a little to pricey for me so in the end I opted for the MAC studio fix. I had it applied on my face then went for a walk around to get a look in different lights includng daylight and when I was happy I went back to make my purchase. I am pleased with the price too £19.50!!!
I hate store lighting it can be so deceiving, why do they do that arrgghh

Bobbi Brown has amazing shades...I feel like she is a desi woman in a white woman's body.

Yeah, I know Dior is pricey...that's the only thing I hate about it :(
I've got oily skin and I've been using the urban decay powder foundation for the last 9 months and I love it. Some people don't like the application process ie swirl, tap, buff but I love it. It's taken me years to find a foundation that looks natural without being cakey. I tried the bare escentuals one but it was way to shimmery. The ud one has a soft matte finish and no shimmer. Id say its more of a light to medium coverage which suits me. I have also heard good things about the MAC one but haven't tried it myself. Mrs nm what's the verdict on the mac?

Right then! I sid use my MAC studio fix yesterday and I absolutely loved it, it was so easy to use and so quick, I am very pleased with my purchase and can see myself using this product, previously I wouldn't bother with foundations for a quick days/ evenings out but this sure will be handy!
