Definitely do Beijing! Hong Kong is okay (extremely superficial) - but, Beijing is a must!!!

unfortunately hong kong is a must because of his work, so i’m not looking at that leg as the “vacation” but if i can get him to squeeze in beijing i will die happy

If you have a long layove, at least 7 hoursr. Go out and see the city. I am pretty sure, Canadians do not need a visa. However, for US citizens, there is a fee of $20 and you can get it on arrival.

unfortunately, i have only a couple of hours’ layover in each direction. thanx for the info. btw, Canadians pay much higher visa on arrival fee as compared to the US citizens. they erroneously think either we are rich or we are used to higher taxes on everything. even dead pay tax to be buried. what a shame!
