Which one shocked YOU the most?

Volcanic Lightning - Sometimes, when a volcano explodes, it releases a powerful amount of energy into the atmosphere. This sudden jolt can result in strong reactions that ultimately produce lightning from within an eruption!

Steam Towers - This geothermal phenomena is Northern Lights adjacent and has the ability to transform the night sky into an eerie green hue.

Underwater Rivers - These Mexican aquatic anomalies occur when dense matter sinks to the bottom of a body of water, thus creating its OWN flow.

Bioluminescent Waves - You can thank phytoplankton for creating this amazingly beautiful neon shore.

Morning Glory Clouds - Not even scientists can figure out what causes this wonder of the world. So, when you see one, just appreciate it for its overall awesomeness! Unreal.

Red Crabs of Christmas Island - There are over 120 million crabs on the island. During the late fall/early winter months, this massive onslaught of pinching-sea creatures collectively makes its way to the ocean to mate.

The ‘Door To Hell’ - This natural gas vent in Turkmenistan has been a popular tourist attraction because its flame hasn’t gone out since it was initially lit in 1971!

These are just brilliant! Volcanic lava and door to hell are cool and the light algea or whatever it is that lights up in the sea in Maldives are pretty amazing. :)

  1. Mauritius Island: Underwater waterfall. Strong ocean currents continually drive sand from the shores of Mauritius into the abyss below, creating this one-of-a-kind underwater waterfall.

  2. Columbia: Caño Cristales River. Due to its extensive habitat of fauna and flora, this flowing river appears in yellow, green, blue, black and red as you travel along it. The rocks here are around 1.2 billion years old, and those who visit call it the most beautiful river in the world.

  3. Australia: Lake Hillier. The pink color of this lake is thought to be the result of a dye created by algae and bacteria in the water. Despite the odd hue, the lake doesn’t seem to have any adverse effects on humans or local wildlife.

  4. Russia: Lake Baikal is the oldest freshwater lake in the world. In the winter, the lake freezes, but the water is so clear that you can see 130 feet below the ice. In March, frost and sun cause cracks in the ice crust, which results in the turquoise ice shards we see at the surface.

  5. South America: Mount Roreima. This tabletop mountain is one of the oldest mountains on Earth, dating back two billion years when the land was lifted high above the ground by tectonic activity. The sides of the mountain are sheer vertical cliffs, with several waterfalls, making it nearly impossible to climb.

  6. Bolivia: Salar De Uyuni. During the rainy season, the world’s largest salt flat becomes the world’s largest mirror. The Salar was born when several prehistoric lakes joined into one. The salt flat is so reflective, it’s used to calibrate satellites.
