guys i just finished my two years of university . i was doing biology major (no pre med). as we know biology major can’t do much , so my brother advise me to do CIS (computer information system.) which one is better ? and if u have done CIS let me know how is it ?

Well firstly you need to ask yourself whether you really want to make that drastic switch to a totally new field of study. Not that I’m discouraging you, but it just seems rather odd that you’ve spent a couple of years in Biology at the University level and perhaps a couple of years in High School… and there must have been some motivation for you to opt for it.
Why would you say that there isn’t much you can do with a biology degree? In fact, over the least several years, there’s been a surge in jobs even outside the health care sector… look at recent trends in jobs for geneticists, forensic scientists and physiologists. Whether its molecular biology or developmental biology, there are tons of options out there.
All you really need to do is to get involved with some research projects going on at your home institution, perhaps… look for an entry-level internship with a company like MDS Sciex / another pharmaceutical or even a small laboratory services company ; do your networking through your local chapter of a national association/society – and you’ll be fine inshaAllah.
Coming to the second part of your question, CIS can be a fast-track road to the workforce, but I’ve seen way too many people who’re stuck in it and haven’t been able to find a sense of accomplishment in what they’re doing. Again, ask yourself whether you have an aptitude for this type of thing… one way to do this is to try to go for a couple of industry endorsed certifications… attend classes for it, take exams… and see how you do. It’s a low risk strategy for evaluating how things might pan out for you. I personally did Computer Science (Software Engineering), then Information Systems and Management Sciences for my post-graduate studies. I'll be happy to answer any further questions you might have.

Depends on what you want to do. I will suggest Biology only if you are willing to get a graduate degree in it, otherwise it is not that easy to find jobs in the field. Atleast thats what friends of mine have said that only had a Bachelor's, but again, anything is possible and people do find work despite only have a Bachelor's. smile

^ guys problem is that i was interested to become a doctor , but then it was too long to go i don’t i can study that long. i spent my two years of biology because i took bio as challange it was hard major for me, i am not good in it but i took as challange ok i will do it. MY brother pops up and he tell r u interested in computers i m like i just want to be done with bachlor degree with 9-5 job i don’t care what it is . so he said do CIS.
UMAR bahi- thanks for ur kind information i really appreciate it , i have done just my basic yet so i won’t loose many credit hours i am just finish with my sphomore year thats why i haven’t spend so many years on biology yet. you r right there might be field but 95% of ration si end doing master if they r biology major.

Doctors job is not 9-5 that i can assure you that bacha. But i know you can do so many other things in medical feild. My sister wants something from 9-5 she is junior in college now Mashallah. She is doing Speech Pathology- while she was in school she got interested in Sign Language and she went on doing that a little as well.
Insan you have to take other core courses at your Uni- may be then you can find something that will interest you.
CIS- I think there are too many desi's involved in it already do something different. Same goes for the doctor.
May be there was something that you got inspired by when you were little.
To land a good computer job these days is a challenge on its on.
how about
Psychology?
Education?
May be you want to do something where there are less muslims involved and that can help the community plus yourself.

but the problem is that all the fields are nto world wide i mean for example pharmist is just in america no value in other countries in a same way other fields are just limited united state there is no hope as world wide. but thanks alot for suggestion keep coming and tell if u know some thing world wide.
