So, in late 2010, I will be writing MCAT for the first time, hopefully the last time, INSHA ALLAH and am looking around to buy the prep books…I know that Kaplan is quite popular but there are so many other books in the bookstore that shuffled my mind..As these are pretty expensive, I’d like to buy the ones that have been useful to people and given positive outcome. I’d prefer ones that come with practice tests, either online or paper, to give me a rough idea what the format of the test would be…
So all you wise people, please come forward and help a poor soul.

honestly, all u need is the prep course from Kaplan…their books thoroughly cover all the subjects…and they have enuf practice questions and test, and shelf exams…plus the flash cards help u in memorizing stuff better (esp. with orgo - argh :nightmare: )
i like their method as well…at the very beginning, they give u a pre-assessment test to guage ur level, and based on that, u know what areas u need to concentrate more on for each section/subject…
give urself plenty of time to study and review the material, and be regular with it no matter what…and do as many practice/shelf exams as possible…after u’ve reviewed everything, that’s the only way to keep all that material fresh in ur mind and prepare well for the exam
I'm weird in the sense that I don't actively read a book unless I'm reading it for the first time. So I did Kaplan, but felt like I needed another source- bought Princeton Review, I believe it's a much better book and I learned a lot more. They also have questions after every chapter, which Kaplan doesn't. Good Luck!
Well it's like this: Some folks can get it just by doing self-review (like buying the prep material and studying on your own), while some others would prefer actual class sessions. Kaplan/Princeton and a few other institutions offer that as well. It's a bit pricey though, but you get the comfort of having an instructor and a classroom setting.
When you're done reviewing, examcrackers have these question books that might also be of some help to you. I know a lot of people recommended them for O-chem and verbal.
i took the princeton classes. best 1500 bucks i ever spent. not only do they teach you the material, with the books provided, they also teach you how to take the exam. i think kaplan's along the same lines, but they also give you these flash cards =/
