Say we have two options. The room, useage, everything remains same…1. 1.5 Ton split airconidtioner (18,000 BTU)…and…2. 1 Ton airconditioner (12,000 BTU)…Will the 1.5 ton produce more cooling whenever the compressor is active…hence using less electricity as it will quickly cool down the room…OR…The 1 ton will use less electricity, despite running for a longer period of time…since it has a smaller compressor…Please don’t move it to science/techonology,because nobody visits that place ever..
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
Any mechanical engineers in the house?![]()
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
ButSahib, draw you room dimensions(north marked)
Place around it, rooms around it rooms above it. etc
If I bring you energey bill down, you pay me half of the saving for this summer. ![]()
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
dude people who visit science/tech tend to talk less
Thats about it.
But they DO visit.
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
pls provide the below info, to give you the best sol.
Room Size ??
Operating temp ??
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
Let us make some assumptions
- both ACs have ability to cool room down to set point
- Same room. So same insulation etc.
- the rated power ot 18000 Btu ac is 1.5 times that of 12000 Btu.
- ac operates at rated power when on - compressor working per B sahab’s definition.
- electric power consumptionin kwh = Rated power/ efficiency*(hrs ac is on)
Assume same total energy needed to bring room temp down and keep it there for x hours. So electric consumption depends on efficiency of units. Which should be available.
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
The above admittedly is a “black box” approach. From a non ME who knows notn abt how ac works. Just an energy balance around black box. Boundary of BB is the outer walls of the room or house being cooled.
Try inverter Air conditioners my father are replacing all Air conditioners of the house which are of LG ART cool series 1 and 1-1/2 Tons to Acson Intverter Ac after buying and trying one Intverter AC. Regular AC takes 11A but it takes only 0.9 to 2.5 maxium amazing nahi? Consumes 1/4 of the electricity as compare to regular split AC. Best part is its running on our 3200kv (a small generator) as well.
Although its expensive then regular Split ACs but works amazing. Cooling are same as regular ACs even beter ![]()
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
Room Size is 12x14x11 feet…Two windows…5x6 ft… facing east and north.. Direct sunlight exposure till 12noon. construction is brick with cement plaster outsided…Operating temp (without AC) would be around 32-35C… But whatever the temperature, i said keeping everything similar in both cases.
Re: Which is AC would be more energy efficient?
Any comments on the solution provided? How about telling us the efficiency of each unit @ rated power?
I know ac are rated in Btu units. But Btu is unit of energy. I would think the rating would be in power units.
