So I recently got engaged (yay!) and am floating around on Cloud 9 at the moment…
Before getting engaged I had my ring size measured, and because I’m from the UK where engagement rings are worn on the left finger, I assumed I’d be wearing mine on the left too, so I got that measured. On my mungni however, all the auntie-jees were saying I should wear it on the right, as that’s supposed to be the Pakistani tarika, so my fiancee put it on my right hand on the day.
Since then I’ve switched it back to my left hand (hehee!) cus I want all my friends to know its an engagement ring! But I was wondering what hand do most people wear their engagement/wedding rings? And is it the Pakistani tarika to wear it on the right or were the aunties just confused that day lol
When my eldest sister got engaged (this was 10 years ago mind you) they told her to wear her ring on her right hand as well, and the engagement was in Pakistan so they just did that for the ceremony. But she still wore it on the left. A few people do say put it on the right hand cos you're not married yet, but it's really up to you which hand! She wears her wedding ring and engagement ring together on her left hand now
At our mangni, my FOB jetani made me put the ring on my husbands right hand
LOL @ FOB! I've heard that as well Mad Hatter, that people wear it on the right hand then put it over to the left once they're married. I'm happy having it on my left hand though, and most people on here seem to agree with me, yaaaay!
Orthodox people wears wedding ring&engagement ring in right hand. And here(in North Europe) its habit that u wear it left hand but if u happen to widowed then u change ur wedding ring to right hand. In middle Europe people wear engagement ring in left hand, but when they get married they change it right hand.
Here thats old habit to wear it in left ring finger and reason behind is "Vena Amoris": from left ring finger goes straight vein to heart so its kinda thought that its romantic that ur wedding ring is in that finger and "connected" to ur heart. =)
Im not married or engaged yet, but I think Im gonna wear it left hand. My mom has never used a ring, she just doesnt like to wear it. And neither does my dad. Personally I think its important to wear it, and I want that my future hubby will wear it too..
