Where was Prophet Jesus (alayhis salaam) born?

Do Muslims believe he was born in a barn and who is Joseph (the guy Mary :as: is suppose to be engaged to in Christianity) considered in Islam?

And are we allowed to pray to Allah to hurry the return of Christ :as: and the emergence of Mahdi :as:?

Praying for the retun of Christ is arguable. IMO I don't think its appropriate, since coming back of Christ means Qiyamaah.

Jesus was born from virgin Mary and there is no mention of Joseph (not prophet Yusuf) in Islam. Jesus was born in Nazareth (nasr).

Here is verse about his position in his own words in Quran.

"He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet, And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and almsgiving so long as I remain alive, And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest. Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt." (The Meaning of the Glorious Koran, translated by M. M. Pickthall, Surah 19 - Maryam, Verses 30-34)

The Gospel of Matthew, says, "Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king."

The Gospel of Luke says, "And Joseph also went up from Galilee from the city of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was with child.

And it came about that while they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth..........

Jesus called Jesus the Nazarene.. perhaps??? because Nazareth declared home of his parents.

Some Controversey exists.

go anc check the Nazareth's birth records. He should be listed. I mean do you really care that much where he was born? All I can say is that he was lucky that he was born 2000 years ago. If he were born today in Nazareth, he might be killed by Jews. Oopps..

WRONG! hazrat mariyam {mary} :razi2: wasn’t engaged to anyone astags’ she gave birth to hazrat isa {jesus} :razi: bin baap {meaning without father} a miracle from allah..

Surah Maryam, verses 22-27:

So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place.

And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: She cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!"

But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee

"And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.

"So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye. And if thou dost see any man, say, 'I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious, and this day will I not enter into talk with any human being'"

At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought!

Hmmm I wonder who killed him 2000 years ago? :ahaa: Jews

Jews only attempted to kill Hazrat Isa (as). They did not succeed as Allah wanted something else. Quran tells us that Hazrat Isa (as) was elevated to the skies at that time and he is still alive in heavens. He will appear again, InShaAllah, in a time close to Qiyamat / The Judgement day.

okay a question…at that time, was she ridiculed or reviled in any way by ppl who didn’t believe that she was a virgin?
and is there a Mary Magdelene in Islam?

brother u can’t use RadiAllahu for Hazrat Isa(AS) and Anhuma for Hazrat Maryam(AS)they were way before Hazrat Muhammad(SAW).so u can’t use those terms

No controversy exists.

Jesus Christ according to the New Testament and all records were born in Bethlehem and brought up in nazareth, his hometown.

yeh born there, lived in nazareth, "crucified" in jerusalem (outskirts).

:jazak: :k:

so he wasn’t born in a stable

Dear Old Man,

I am no expert in biblical history.

As a catholic we were always taught that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

As children we were told the story that in Bethlehem Jesus was born in a manger as there was no room at the inn…

I wanted to check faqs before I posted answer so consulted the Catholic Encylopedia…and this source (as usual) is “longwinded :)” with inclusion of scholarly debate.

In the case of Bethlehem the site mentions the following:

Two cities of the name are known from Sacred Scripture: Bethlehem and Bethlehem of Judea.

Bethlehem:
belonging to the tribe of Zabulon… a little less than seven miles southwest of Sapphoris (Saffurieh) and seven miles northwest of Nazareth, the home of Our Lord.

Bethlehem of Judea:
Located five miles south of Jerusalem at a very short distance from the highroad from Jerusalem to Hebron.

Site mentions that:

Some place Our Lord’s birth at Nazareth, called His patrisin the Gospels (Mark, vi,1, and parall.; cf. i,9; i,24, etc.);

and

this is done by almost all those who deny the historicity of the Infancy, endeavoring to explain our narratives as a legend arisen from the Jewish tradition that the Messiah had to be born in Bethlehem, occasioned by Micheas, v, 2 (1).

I wanted to give factual answer, that I could back up…not just answer based on personal teachings. In my thinking..the scholarly debate..warranted using the word controversey.

I appreciate queries by Muslims about Christianity. Such questions give me an incentive to research, discover, study, learn more about the faith I was baptised into as a child.

Important to note that just there are scholarly variety in Muslim thought…Variety exists in Christian thought.

where did you get the idea that :razi: is somehow fixed for sahabas? it is just a way we show respect to them but it is not a religious duty or reserved for sahabas of rasul allah muhammad :saw:. as far as i know..
and yes jesus :saw: was a rasul of allah so we should send blessings and peace on him.
