Anyone know what the best avenues are to send some significant amount of money to? I’d prefer it helps women and children in India

Dont know much except that its more of an international entity, and not so much Indian as you asked.
I have tried C.R.Y and am satisfied with its performance and accountability norms, also their percentage of funds being used for the charity as against their administration costs is pretty impressive.
What really got me going for C.R.Y is their AD campaign specially the one at Chowapatty Bombay (though may not be a real good reason for Charity) but all I can say its really touching.

Atlantis, If you want to do some vetting of the charities check out www.icicicommunities.com. A friend of mine runs that for the bank and they do some pre-dd on the charities and make it easier for remittances as well.

^^ What I meant was, wouldn't this query be more effective at Hindustani sites? I mean, when was the last time you went to a Hindustani forum to inquire about aid or funds regarding Pakistan...
But I guess Pakistanis have always been generous, so I guess it's natural for them to come to a Pakistani site regarding aid for Hindustan...
