Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

while we are on this topic, did anyone get the circumcision done right after birth at the hospitals in the USA?

I have heard that sometimes the docs don even offer local anaesthesia (which I find hard to believe) unless and until you request one for your child.. is that true?

how did the process go?

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

Got my baby's done right after birth here in the U.S. Just tell your obgyn that you want circumcision done. It didn't even take her 5 mins to perform the surgery. I don't think they give anesthesia. because the baby is so small and doesn't have full nerve development, it doesn't hurt him like it would hurt an adult. I was very worried about the pain but MA my son did very well and was completely healed before 2 weeks. You just have to care for that area, keep it clean and put lots of petroleum jelly. They tell you how to take care of your baby. There are some hospitals that do give some kind of numbing agent either a numbing cream or a local anesthesia. Either way, babies do just fine after circumcision.

Most of the hospital won't let you see the surgery been performed. They tell the parents to stay out.

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

Sorry, don't know how it is in the US, but I can tell you about Canada! (Just move up here Gia, it'll be so much easier :p)

I got my little guy's circumcision done the day after he was born, while we were still in the hospital. They do give a local anesthetic, usually placed a little lower than the belly button, so that it helps numb the area. Always make sure that you know the process of how they are going to do it. Don't assume that they'll numb the area, or if they'll use a ring or not. They also give the baby a little sugar water for him to suck on so take his mind off the pain.

And I would suggest that at least one of the parents go in while they're doing the surgery. The doctors might recommend you not going because you don't want to see your child hurting, but for me it was a peace of mind knowing that the one of us is there to make sure everything goes okay. Just tell them that you would like to be there. Shouldn't be a problem, I don't think.

Thanks Spiral!!

Smiley.. I really should.. I love your maternity leave out there.. find me a job and I will be there ;)

and yes thats what I have read that if you request one, they will give the local anaesthesia or numb the area otherwise they usually don't.. and you are right at least one of us should be there.. if anything, it will be husband.. father son bonding you know :D

ps: no, we don't know the gender yet but we have already talked about it :D

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

hi, I had my Baby Boy circumcised last week at 9 days old, I went to a GP IN Chatham.
He uses a cream to numb the area and not a general anaesthetic as he was too young, he then put a ring on my Son with a piece of thread.
The procedure was quick and went well, ( after tears from me and baby ) and he also gave us after care advise, the details are:

just past bluewaters :)

good luck!!

GTG, my wife is an OBGYN and routinely does circumcisions. She says that studies show that babies DO feel the pain. She always does some sort of anesthesia before she does a circumcision. I don't think she has had a single complication from a circ in her career.

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

So in UK, why is it that you guys are giving a doctor's name who specifically does this. Here in the US, your obgyn does the circumcision. We don't need a different doctor.

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

For both of my boys it was done in the hospital where they were born. I just fill in form and the took care of the rest. I do not remember if it was done on same day or next.

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

Are you anywhere near tooting/streatham?there is a very good doctor in that area who did both my boys. Let me know and I will find his details

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

We don't have obgyns in UK, we have midwives, and surgeons in case of caesareans.

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

not that far I dont think from hounslow so pls post me details. Thanks

Re: Where to go for circumcison baby- recommendations and which method ring or tradit

As far as I'm aware in UK - on the NHS heath system which like all UK residents have, we don't have option of public hospital doing circumcision unless it was for a medical reason. Therefore, all our treatment is free but for medical reasons only. So what happens is that you find someone to do circumcision by private healthcare who are usually doctors (local practice ones) or surgeons.

How does it work in US?
