Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

Following today’s tragic events, the ICC seems to be implying that international matches will no longer be held in Pakistan unless security dramatically improves.

When some countries were previously expressing reluctance to play in Pakistan, ideas suggested by non-Pakistanis was that Pakistan home games could be held outside Pakistan in countries with large Pakistani populations, like England, or Dubai.

Is this still feasible?

AFP: No World Cup games in Pakistan unless major change: ICC

Pakistan cannot host international cricket unless it dramatically improves security, the head of the sport’s world body said after Tuesday’s Lahore attacks, questioning notably the 2011 World Cup.

“In the current situation it clearly is a very dangerous place,” David Morgan, president of the International Cricket Council, told BBC television after the deadly attacks on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in the Pakistani city.

Asked about plans for the World Cup, due to be played in four Indian subcontinent countries, Morgan said: “Things will have to change dramatically in Pakistan in my opinion if any of the games are to be staged there.”

“I think that international cricket in Pakistan is out of the question until there is a very significant change, a regime change I guess,” he added.

An ICC spokesman said he assumed Morgan was referring to a call by Pakistani senators this week for the Pakistani cricket board to be sacked.

In an interview with BBC radio, Morgan added: "Quite clearly there could be a regime change in Pakistan and the place could become safe and peaceful again, but that all remains to be seen…

"The World Cup was awarded to the four countries in the Indian subcontinent. The allocation of matches between those four countries is yet to be made.

“Quite clearly, this event puts a great question mark over the ability of Pakistan to host cricket world cup matches.”

Eight people died when the Sri Lankan cricket team’s convoy was attacked by masked gunmen as they travelled to play at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. Seven team members were injured.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Britain Wajid Hasan meanwhile told Sky News television that it was too early to talk of the end of international cricket in his country.

“I wouldn’t like to rush to that sort of conclusion,” he said.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Bangladesh and England are suitable alternatives.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

I think that given the Awami League government in power in Bangladesh, they would oppose Pakistan playing home games there - it would come across as Pakistan treating Bangladesh as home territory. Not to mention the very low Pakistani population there to form a "home" crowd.

I think that the UAE is most likely. England is probably too far.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dabi only !

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

UAE seems like a good option. im sure also more attractive to PCB and the team than Bangla

Why Bengladesh? Also No England.

UAE is better.

UAE

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

The UK government has offered to let Pakistan play its home games in England.

Australia has already said that it will play against Pakistan in England.

Pakistan could play home games in England - International Herald Tribune

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

no where.
we dont deserve these recreational activities.

organizing these matches in UAE will only increase match fixing, gambling etc.

if PCB really wana do something then instead of inviting foreign teams and spend millions of dollars on them and their so-called security, they should publicize and encourage the homegrown teams, youth, and spend more money of their education and practice.

We can't let militants define what recreation activities we deserve and what we dont' deserve.

By inviting foreign teams and spending few millions on their security PCB and country gets MORE millions.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

I wish we could play atleast one series involving non-SL in SL just to show support to SL team and country.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

Canada can be one venue. I there are any ICC test standard grounds here or not but I am sure we can get as much people in the ground as in Pakistan, if not more.

deservingness…lol. if it up to them then there aint be any option :p.

btw i was basing my argument after seeing thisvideo :bummer:

well then you are underrating the current situation. current situation is its better not to waste money on sending delegations on foreign tours and plead about their innocence.

England as an offshore venuefor Pakistan matches has been in discussion for several months. The discussion started right after the postponement of Champions Trophy last year when Giles Clark offered PCB. I guess I read that England was interested in sharing 50% of revenues from ticket sales, media rights etc.

The only problem with making England a regular venue for Pakistani games is to determine a time of the year when England is not playing any home series and Pakistan and another test nation is available to play. I remember reading about this issue and a possible solution was to play during off season in England (January/February) but then again the problem for Pakistan will be the cold weather.

In my opinion Pakistan should start scheduling their FTP keeping England as the second option for their matches and try to get slots whenever the weather is not too demanding. Their first option should be UAE expecially considering that PCB already has a 3 year agreement with Dubai Sports City.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

Did someone say regime change? I can live with that.

Re: Where should Pakistan play its home matches now?

the two places they can get a sizable pakistani crowd are UAE and UK

btw just the fact this is a real discussion is pathetic state of affairs

It's like saying my parents are fighting, can I have my cake at the neighbour's house.
We need fix thing at our own home first. Playing in another country is an orphan state of mind. Beghairat

Only if cricketers were responsible for fixing the country I'd have completely agreed with you.

Hell no, Pakistan shouldn't play any match's in England. They are part of this Nato force that attacks Pakistani people. Plus most people in England are very very anti Pakistani. Play the match's in Duabi, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah. A good way to get arab supporters and unifying muslims people. Also a big company might end up sponsor Pakistan team.

completely agree with you on this!
