Its HER children first than their grandchildren. Living separately does not mean that she is cutting off grandchildren from grandparents. Once husband dies, even Father in law become namehram. Meeting once in a while with namehrams is totally different from living b/w them day and night.
My cousin passed away at the young age of upper 30s. He has couple of kids. Even though bhabi lives alone now but she has never forced kids to cut off contact with us (or grandparents). We talk almost every couple of weeks and meet once in couple of months. Whenever she goes to Pakistan, kids stay for good week or two.
