Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

OK so this sounds really blonde of me, but my aunt wants measurements so she can make some clothes for me in pakistan,.she asked for my waist…

now some say its near the hips, like the widest part of your stomach..and some its the smallest part of your torso…im soo confused…where the hell is it???

I was sure it was the smallest part under your ribs and before your belly button…now am confused…

thanks

she wanted to know for the lengha and shirt measurements…but do paksitanis consider waist different to what we do…

Re: Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

waist = smallest part of ur torso.

then it's where ur stomach begins, then across your entire stomach, and going towards hips, they're called (respectively) small hip, abs/stomach, and of course hips.

waist to me is the circumference of your stomach where you bellybutton is located. to make things easier why not just send your aunt an email with your measurements using a form from a website.

here’s a link to one used on seasonsindia.com

utsavsarees has a good one as well…

Sara is right. If you want proper fitting you need all these measurements.
If the tailor is good you only really need waist (smallest part of torso) and full hips for a kameez. But if you're having a lengha shirt made, then stomach and small hips are very important too.

Re: Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

You're kidding right?

Looks like that Masters degree obviously wasn't in Biology :p

Re: Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

hehe, seriously you may laugh but waist measurements are the hardest to figure out, i know because almost everyone is utterly confused and is giving me different areas. My aunt is a doctor by the way with a phd as well as many other academics who, on reletively common matters are clueless.....the firm i work for, is a law firm, and all the top lawyers are very clever from cambridge etc yet they do not know how to use the photocopier or the fax machine...

so please do not confuse the two love.....

Re: Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

the waist you use to buy low-rise jeans is NOT the waist your aunt is looking for. clearly your shirt will not be designed this way.
she is looking for what sara pointed out.

Actually, this is quite a common question. And many women are confused by it. And such a question has been asked by people on other forums as well.

People have different views regarding where your waist should be measured. I've read that it is the smallest part of your body. However, in health class at Uni....i learned that your waist is where your belly button is.

A Masters Degree doesn't necessarily mean that one would know about every single big topic that is out there. I also have a Masters Degree....and while I'm knowledgeable about some subjects.....I am comfortable in admitting that I don't have much knowledge in others. And to **increase **their knowledge, confident people are comfortable with asking for help or researching a topic on the Internet. ;)

Re: Where is my Waist??? ( FOR wedding shirt)

^ can we please move on from this back and forth? its seriously derailing this thread.

karachi tailors don't care about biology- they care about fitting. as mentioned- your waist is the smallest part of your body, where it naturally curves in. everything else is either your shoulders, chest, your tummy or hips.
