I remember there was a thread last month during India’s beating of Pakistan saying that how Dhoni is SUCH a proven player. I had argued that Dhoni has played only good versus Sl And Pak.. Well lets see how he did in the recently completed test series vs ENGLAND!
Dhoni scored:
5, 16 for a total of 21 runs in the 1st test
16, dnb for a total of 16 runs in the 2nd test = i give him benefit of doubt on this one
he scored 64, 5 for a total of 69 in the 3rd test
so 4 out of the 5 innings he played, he failed to reach even twenty, and twice he failed to reach 10, and so called MR. PROVEN dhoni also flunked poorly last night when INDIA were in all sorts of trouble.

yeah most indian fans jumped on the dhoni bandwagon too soon- without him even proving himself outside india.
i don't question his potential because his batting shows signs of a lot of skill- but this guy has barely done anything significant to be labelled better than afridi, as most indians claim.
although he has time to prove his batting, regardless of what anyone says his wicket keeping is absolute doo-doo
Last I checked, Paksitan was outside India (Alhamdollilah). However, I think your point is well-taken. People are always eager to identify the next super-star, and often jump the gun. Pak fans were over the moon on Rana (after Aus series) and for Asif (after Indian series). Same with Indian fans (right now on Munaf bandwagon). Lets give all these chaps a decent run to establish themselves. Invariably they will fail every now and then, but as long as they keep making progress and improve their game, its all good.
You guys are kidding yourself. Its his first series against England. Again this is why Pakistan and India will never be world champions because they let go of talent after one flop of a series.
If he can play good against Vaas and Murali and Akhtar then he can play against any other bowling in the world!!!!!!!!!
You are right about all the players mentioned but I think Munaf stands a good chance. What I saw I think he is a different bowler and has talent to make his name. I guess we will see.
It's unfair to have such expectations on new players when the old legends have failed. But then again, such superstardom in India does come with its responsibilities. You cant hog the TV and newspapers when you're doing well and then when you fail you fall back on the inexperience excuse.
He didn’t play against Akthar. If you recall, Akthar did not play in the pak india series.. its not one flop, he flopped agianst sotuh africa too.. and another thing, no body is saying he is a flop, but just sayin that he hasnt proven himself yet. lot of people after the pakistani series said dhoni is a proven player now.. he’s not.. hey may become one, but he is far from it right now..
^Or at least remember the scintillating SIXER that Dhoni hit off Rawapindi's express chucker....and later a string of FOURS that elicited the infamous beamer.
i think Dhoni has performed well previously and even in the england series
i mean if you want to compare scores, you should compare it with the rest of the indian team...without dravid and kumble in the picture, his scores look better than most
so its WRONG to say that he is a 'FAILURE' and please stop being so pessimistic ->

i dont.. in fact i didnt even concentrate on dhonis scores until the series was over.. again my main point is .. Dhoni has yet o prove himself.. he is not a proven batsman.. at best he is a mediocre batsman.. and a good wicketkeeper. but no where near a proven batsman that India can rely on match after match.
