I was also interested because one of my friends from Lahore said that there are autorickshaws but she hasn’t seen a cycle rickshaw. I wonder if that’s just in Lahore.
Ok let me give some glimpses of history from the area I belong.
Its the area where Usman Marwandi (RA) came around thousand years back and became Laalan Sohna and Qalandar Shahbaz equally revered by Hindus and Muslims.
When you move towards north, there used to be Asia largest natural lake, which now became a ganda naala because of industrial wastage from upside the country.
If you move a little to north, you will find 18th century capital of Sindh, which is now just a village with a historical mosque.
Moving further to north, you will reach district headquarter and my hometown, which was called Pakistan’s Vietnam during black era of Zia becuase of agitation shown by the people of the area.
Moving further to north, There is tomb of Makhdoom Bilawal (Bilawal Bhutto’s name is inspired from his name). He was the sufi who lead a farmer movement during Arghoon era and was martyred by charging of blasphemy.
Nearby are the hills and mountain area of Kirthar range, which contain ancient caves from pre-historical period. This range also have a hill station (the only place in Sindh, where snow falls). If this place (Gorakh) is developed, it can be an alternative to places like Murree in Sindh. The area is rich with minerals and many multinational oil exploration companies have offices there, but the locals are poor.
The place where Mughal emperor married Hamida Banu begum (Akbar’s mother) is also falls in this district.
Parents were born in Karachi but one is Syed/Pathan & one is Punjabi. Paternal father was from a village named Phulrey Sayedan in Punjab & maternal grandparents are from Haripur Hazara in KPK.
A. Karachi
B. Anything from Pathan ki Chai paratha from Dhaba to Bun Kababs & Papri Chaat. Nehari as well I believe. (Popular Pushto food is “Mata Karai Dodai” & Punjabi food “Saag & Makai ki Roti”)
C. Karachi is by the Arabian gulf. So we got the “Samandar” unlike any other city in Pakistan.
D. Depending on what social class is using it. Anywhere from Bus, Rickshaws & taxi cabs to motor bikes & cars.
food is pretty much the same as other parts of pakistan. but what i liked the most in pakistan and miss the most is the mangoes. also there is this fruit called Faalsay which is like tiny purple colored berries which are very yummy. i have never seen them outside pakistan.
sadly, mugging on gun point during broad daylight for cellphones and jewlery is pretty much unique to karachi. i have lived in punjab as well, but never witnessed such things.
for rich people, its cars. for others its bus. when i was there, bus system was actually pretty good. rickshaws are available too but can be expensive.
beaches. karachi is close to many different beaches.
