PESHAWAR: The government as well as followers of Sufi Mohammad’s defunct Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi are looking for him for one reason: to start talks to remove the last few remaining hurdles in the enforcement of Nizam-i-Adl Regulation.

**Sufi Mohammad was last seen leaving for his home in Lal Qila area from his base camp in Maidan on Saturday afternoon. **

On Sunday morning, according to his spokesman Ameer Izzat, the cleric started for his base camp along with his son Ziaullah, just when the paramilitary forces moved in to attack militants’ hideout in Lal Qila.

‘The last time we had contact with Sufi Sahib was when he said he was on his way to Maidan. He said that he wanted to return home but he was not allowed to proceed by security people because of the fighting there,’ Ameer Izzat said.

‘There has been no communication since then and we don’t know where he is. Everybody is looking for him. We are looking for him. The government is looking for him. We are concerned. We want him to come back and resume talks to resolve the pending issues.’

Ironically, the NWFP government faces the same predicament. It desperately needs to start talks and announce the remaining steps for the implementation of the recently-announced regulation but it does not know where to find the TNSM chief.

In fact, a two-member team of the NWFP government comprising Senator Afrasiab Khattak and Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain flew into Upper Dir on Monday. But Sufi was nowhere to be seen.

Anxious to resolve the remaining issues, the government is believed to have reached out to all those who could locate Sufi Mohammed. One significant announcement would be the setting up of Darul Qaza in Malakand.

This would be a major stride in the full implementation of the regulation but before it does so, the government would like to consult the unpredictable TNSM leader.

The TNSM wants the operation to be halted and one reason for the demand is to help find their leader, who is known for his disappearing antics.

In 1994, when the TNSM had launched an armed rebellion against the state for enforcement of Sharia in Malakand, Sufi was literally pulled out from the mountains by a helicopter to negotiate a settlement.

Sufi had agreed and went along with government officials to disarm his supporters and dislodge them from the mountains.

I wish it was true but as the later part says, he is a girgit and disappears easily.

you know what .. i think. .because of fear of operation ,.. he goes back to his cave.. and start watching some mujra videos..

i wish this time security forces root him out.. and chop his head off once for all !....

The track record of fellows like them (Osama bin laden, Mulla Omar etc) is that they encourage others to fight, become suicide bombers, etc but when the time comes for them to fight......they go hide in some cave.

I am assuming you all are muslims, even though your statements suggest otherwise.

"worked for peace"? Are you talking about the same guy who got killed so many people in 1994? Who is responsible for mass displacement of innocent civilians? The guy who has his own thug militia? The guy who uses Islam's name to gain control over land?

well now that lal masjid loser has been freed he does not need his burqa anymore, i think sufi borrowed that and took off..

it did result in an awkward but funny ending as ppl saw a burqaposh with some guys and then proceeded to flog that burqa posh in public..

sufi then found some chuloo bhar paani and dove it in and has nto been seen since.

The man has done this before as well, and i have read that he had to be airlifted/brought in from where he had "gone" to dialogue back in the 80s i believe.

Well, he is an old man suffering from stroke, so I feel a little sorry for him. - the talibs have actually hijacked his movement. It's his son in law Fazlu, muslim khan and other talib commanders that I hope can be dealt with.

Thank God you're not in charge of issuing "certificates of muslimness". Sufi is not Muslim, but a munafiq for going back on his words even after govt agreed to his demand. He can be heard on intercepted phone calls telling his cave buddies that this is just for the show, their real intention is to take over the whole region and eventually entire country. Sadly for this mullah munaifiq that is not going to happen.

He will not get a visa for Dubai, even in his dreams. People in ME countries do finance these people but their governments do not allow this mentality to flow back to their countries.

Go and ask this question to thousands of people who were forced to leave their land because of these ha**mi talibans, while you are at it, ask this to the family members of thousands of innocent people who have been killed by terrorist talibans.

Allah's name will NEVER prevail if you try to FORCE people.
If anything, this Sufi and his terrorist brothers are causing the GREATEST damage to ISLAM.

Now people have started to LAUGH at muslims if we claim that Islam is a religion of PEACE. In actual fact, there is no doubt that Islam is religion of peace but we all know what people think about muslims these days JUSt because of these jaahil terrorists.
