majority of these nations are still grappling with the ideas of freedom of speech, equality of sexes, modernization and a realization of being a deer caught in the headlights of the 21st century.
It'd be interesting to see if in another 50 years they overcome their dazed and confused states and overwhelm the fringe extremists to make any progress... if the 'war on terror' continues.. i don't see that happening.. the more oppression these nations witness the further back into darkness they will retreat... the more primal they'd become.
Yes, of course I mean masses and the leaders, we both are responsible.
I don’t know how many times they have to say it but we are still confused, yesterday on NPR the former US ambassador to KSA said in a very blunt way that "until we want to drive our SUV's we have to make sure that our interests are safe in the kingdom". So their interest is not in freedom or democracy or even the royal family, it the supply of oil. So we should make sure that we know what help means.

I think we have to keep things in perspective. Even with a country like USA and especially with their long history of democracy, the women’s where given voting rights in this century, not to mention Black which were given these rights in early sixties. so its like jumping the gun to ask from countries which were created in the last 50 some years and their institution are not even fully established, partly because constant indirect mingling.
At this stage I think external influence to a large extend especially the war on “terrorism” would shape where will we stand in the next 50 years.
