I don't intend this to reflect your madhab, if any. I'm just wondering, do you consult the texts, ask your parents, a friend, a sheikh, sheikh google?
for issues of fiqh shariah and ibaadah follow the advice of Fraudz...as they are the experts in this field and will guide you depending on which sect you belong to
but I can tell you from personal experience regarding history few scholars will tell you anything other than the "official version" of their respective sects....it isnt as simple as that
I have
a)Ahsan ul fatawa by Mufti Rasheed Ahmed b)Aap kay masail aur un ka hal by Moulana YOusaf Ludhyanvi.
c) Other collection of books by ulema like Moulana Taqi usmani , Mufti Zarwali etc.
If i need to understand few things i normally go to binori town or Ashraf ul madaris.
The Holy Prophet (saw) said when you find a problem, Chek Quran than Hadith if you dont find anything in Quran and Hadith use ur best judgemnt or consult a wize man.
You may also discuss it with a fellow muslim.
SubhanAllah there is generally a pro-active attitude to responding to questions about Islam :)
But I'm afraid I don't quite follow what some of you mean by 'scholars'? How would you define a scholar of Islam? What qualification would you expect him/her to have to be considered a 'scholar'? How would you ascertain their credibility as a 'scholar'?
