Where can i buy a tava from?

Hi,

i live in London and i wanted to know where i could buy a decent tava from…you know tava to make rotis. I don’t want the non-stick ones you get these days. i want the black cast iron tava you know like the ones our mums have been using for years…

any ideas who sells this? i’m going to Green street on saturday to have a look.

thanks x

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

If you are in South West London, you can get it from Patel in Tooting.

But still you can cook your roties on a fry pan!

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

Thanks Mostar95... does Patel have the proper tava...the black cast iron one?...not the one with a wooden handle...as these burn after a while.

I think rotis come out a lot better in a proper tava than a non-stick frying pan.

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

Ok then wait. I will ask my freind in Tooting to go and check there. Well I used to make equally good roties on a fry pan when I was there.

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

sparrow, non stick tavas are the best, my rotiya taste so wicked mashala. i got tava from green street, the shop oposite henna mehndi i reckon, sumthin housewares etc, i got mine for £18.

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

I was just wondering this the other day ---whats the difference between a tawa and a frying pan? Does it just make better rotis?

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

Thanks Nazia i'm going to Green Street tomorrow so i will check it out. I just think the proper tavas are best for makinging rotis..i never seem to get the same taste from normal frypans....maybe it's just me.

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

I had one of those cast iron tava's and karai's...
It got relegated to the garage when I got non stick versions - now when I want to use them again, I discover hubby threw them out!!!

Anyway, I recently got a really good non stick TEFAL omlette pan from Debenhams in the sale for £14. It's not as deep as a frying pan and looks more like a tawa. But it's really really good. Even my auntie whenever she comes round and I am making roti insists on doing roti's for me as she says it's such a good tava!

I think they still have them in the sale and they are now £7

Hope that helps

Re: Where can i buy a tava from?

I got one in green street for 5pounds large stainless steel. In Green st there is only one store that sells kichenware, towards the bottom where all the jewelry store are, pass Tesco. Its really good and cheap!!
