With all the news about the floods. I have not really witnessed any minister out in the field helping out their locality? Apart from a few selection individuals, the situation seems to be only handled by the army and humanitarian organisations?!
^ politicians are probably busy surveying losses incurred on their agri land and then they will come up with proposal how govt should pay 'farmers' to recover from losses.
as usual, keep spreading propaganda against politicians. I've seen many who were on the field/in their areas helping ppl including Jahangir Tareen, Shahbaz Sharif, Ameen Faheem. these ppl aren't hiding in Islamabad. they're helping out. just yesterday Saleem Safi was saying that there are politicians who haven't been home, haven't seen their kids in weeks because they've been working day and night trying to help people.
compare that to what you are doing McLovin. you're posting on the internet. why aren't you in the field helping out? it's easy to point fingers and spread disinformation and propaganda. and tough to give credit where it's due.
samb- so lets recognize the politicians who are doing justice to their role as elected representatives and are true leaders.
at the same time lets show those who are in it for themselves and not for the people they supposedly represent.
these are not mutually exclusive activities.
my problem is that a lot of politicians (who are not even getting TV coverage, etc) are doing good work. credible journalists have said so over and over again. yes, some aren't doing their part and they will suffer for it. but politicians as a class are judged by the inaction of the latter group rather than the outstanding, selfless work of the former group.
but when it comes to say the army... there is nothing but unequivocal praise for the whole group. I'm sure not all soldiers are helping out... some generals are probably still busy stealing the country's resources never mind the flood. while Zardari was being roasted for being out of the country during the floods, Kiyani took off for a trip to the UAE. not one journalist even meowed about. due to the actions of those soldiers who are helping out today in the floods, the whole institution is being praised. they're judged by the actions of the best among them - not the worst. this is the same army that apparently diverted flood waters and drowned multiple towns to save its own base. there is an article in NY times about this.
similarly, the army is getting credit and the govt is getting nothing but crap... well has anyone stopped and thought about where the army gets it helicopters, trucks, boats, money, etc from that it's helping the ppl with? and these same people will go and vote yes for military rule in that poll thread and add to the 40% who believe that this act of treason is fine.
there is a double standard. the politicians are not given credit for their good work. they as a class are judged by the worst of them. until we get rid of this politician-phobia, we as a country will get nowhere.
Where is the Opposition Leader in N.A. He is also holding another important seat of Chairman P.A.C.
He comes out every 10th day and issues a statement against Zardari and than back to his hide out.
Have you seen him anywhere even in popular 'Disaster Tourism'

I agree 100%, and to encourage honest and dedicated political leaders they must be recognized by people, otherwise it can be very disheartening to be grouped in with stereotyped thugs when these people are trying to do their best.
as far as military, I have seen enough of military folks kids in expensive private unis here and driving german sportscars that simply dont go with military salaries that I know all is not kosher in military land

Hey X2! I can so understand that.
If samb read my post I did say apart from "a few selection individuals" which I actually meant Shahbaz Sharif, Imran Khan, Military etc then apart from them I havnt really seen many people from the senate, NA, provincial assemblies in the field. There is not that much media coverage in them.
Well I think the people who are doing it for themselves/i.e. from the heart/no media coverage I really apprecaite them - but we dont hear or see them. All we see is the idiots saying this has been lost/ that has been lost etc All I see is displaced pakistanis and military airlifting nothing from the politicans..
I still believe that Military is working front foot on a much larger scale then the government and that is the reason why the suffering souls are finding peace in their armed forces and want them to come back and control the situation.
Samb, if you have seen the politicians on the ground or know from reliable sources , name them , at least we , the GS group will know who they are and will appreciate them. But for the majority, unfortunately they are busy in their own tunes .. nothing matters to them, human life, law , nothing ...
I am literally shocked that after the catastrophic hit of floods , none of the leadership came on national TV and addressed the nation. None ! While Mr Zardari and Mr Gilani and the loser company are busy making foreign trips, they could have found an hour in their diaries to address the nation and make them aware of the government efforts , properly along with numbers and names of who is doing what ... The whole purpose of roasting Mr Zardari's absense from the country during the initial days wasnt to have him come back and sit tight in the president house!
The army are doing their job ... General Kiani isnt expected to come on national TV and address the nation .. The political leader , the head of the parliament, is expected to do that ... The nation is suffering hell , floods, mob killing, lawlessness, terrorism ... you name it , we got it ... what have they done to improve the situation other then release a "taziath" statement after every incident. The nation's morale has taken a hit .. we want to know from the leaders what is going on in clear terms ... but they dont want to tell us ... because there really isnt anything they are doing ... they dont have any numbers .. they dont know who is doing what in terms of relief work ... ask an ordinary pakistani , he will have better info to share and tell .
Lets not protect the dirty class so blindly. they are being roasted for a reason.
I think most of them are now free, they have made sure that the maximum damage can be done ( by diverting flood water ) so that they can ask for huge amounts in form of aid or loan for rehab purposes... i think they are busy to develop plans to eat up the amount and/or commodities Pakistan is going to receive.. ofcourse there are few good, but unless these few goods can point out the corruption in floods... there is no good at all...
