Where are my Chicago people at?

Hello guys and Salam…I recently moved to chicago (well this last winter) and I am looking for places to go see now that the weather is warming up, fun things to do, desi restaurants (besides the ones in devon). Any good Pakistani chaat/samosa places around here?

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Only if you’re buying… :chai:

Just kidding. Your best bet for ethnic food is Devon Avenue. It’s slim pickings elsewhere; suburbs have a few choices but not the sort of variety you’ll see all in one area.

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Thank you for the reply, teggy. I've been to most of the pakistani restaurants at devon and they are all great but it's a good 45 min to an hour drive so I was hoping there would be more desi restaurants/chaat places/boutiques closer to to Schaumburg area. Any suggestions?

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Here is some of the things you can find…I rely on zabihah.com to find all desi things even in houston. Hope this helps..

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Check out BBQ Tonight in Hoffman Estates. Heard good things about it.

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Devon Avenue..i ate at Usmania Resturant..liked their food. It's been a while though..

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

I have been to both BBQ tonight and King BBQ in hoffman estates. They were decent..BBQ tonight a little better than King BBQ as far as the food goes but they had a whole tray of chicken tikka sitting right outside of the ladies' bathroom :/ realized that after I finished my dinner.

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

I've heard a lot about them but only had halwa poori there on a sunday morning. I'm such a foodie :D

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

And your username compliments that

Usmania is a decent option for dining. For something off the “Food Block” (Rockwell Avenue-Damen Avenue) is what I call the Food Block :hehe:, you can also try out Delhi Darbar. I have only been there two or three times, the last time being more than 2 years ago.

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

I will try Delhi Darbaar next time I’m there. Oooh and where can I find good kashmiri chai? I tried king sweets on devon but it was alright.

Besides desi food..are there any good boutiques/tailors(darzi) around Schaumburg/Hoffman Esatates or Lombard/Glendale Heights area?

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

Spinzer got "Golaganda" - pretty awesome for the Chicago heat coming up! I do kinda like Anapurna as well - it's not Pakistani though.

So summer things, hmm - Do check out downtown, always something going on.

4th of July fireworks - go near Navy pier.
They also have a water show every summer - You might need to check the dates for that
Every summer there is an event called "Taste of Chicago" - though expensive food, plus Ramzan will be here.
Jet-Ski!
- Though for Jet-Ski, I'd say go to Lake Geneva if possible.
Skydeck? I mean - not really awesomely fun but hey why not :)
Downtown Segway tour?

Oh devon is going to be packed on Chand raat.

Additionally there will be a Paki day going on in Aug (weekend) - The parade goes through the Paki side of Devon. I haven't been to it recently so don't know how it has been lately.
I heard the one that happened in Bolingbrook last year was pretty good.

I've tried Anmol's kashmiri Chai - wasn't too great but not too bad either. Ever since I had my phopho's authentic kashmiri chai, I sorta don't like the other ones that much anymore :(

  • I only know this one Indian place around Schaumburg area that serves meethai and chaat/samosas, I think its called Sukhadia.

Re: Where are my Chicago people at?

I did try Anmol's kashmiri chai..and i liked it though.
