Well, most will tell you that your fast is nullified.
No, it is said that if it happens after 12:00 then you can carry on fasting till the evening. However, if it starts at lets say 10:00 or 11:00 then its nullified.

when u say 12:00 i am sure u meant middle of the day aka Nisf-un-nahaar or zawaal ? (which can never be always exact 12:00) ?
yes Anwaar is very much rite it is Nisaf-un-nihar when teh sun is at its peak it may not always be 12:00 o clock u can just check when ur image is at smallest size or when it begins shortening that is the time after which ur fast will be nullified
amelie.. ive always thought it to be at 12... before it its nulified.. and afterwards u've gotta keep it till aftar..
Thanks so much for all your resposnes guys. I actually have a friend who's doing her PHD in islamic law and she was supposed to get back to me with some references so I could post it here but i've been busy as has she....
If you start before zuhr you're pretty much done for the day.
I've heard some arguments that if you start after you've prayed asr....you should go ahead and keep th fast since it is so late in the day anyways. However, i was reading ibn rushd's jurist primer and didn't find any references to women breakign their fast in the middle of the day due to the start of menses...so can't confirmwhere I heard/learned this.
