no
Re: when you don’t get 70%
No, why wud anyone?! Isnt it but very normal to not get an accent which is so diff from yrs
. Yes, i might feel a bit hesitant to let the other person know it thinking they might get offended but i am sure there must be a right way to put that across
.
Re: when you don't get 70%
I can understand English spoken in any accent of the world , because I worked on a very busy California beach on a drive through window for many years which is a great tourist attraction for tourists from the entire world.
Re: when you don't get 70%
Nope...I remember when I visited my friend's family in Scotland, when her brothers spoke to me..he was soooo fast and the scottish accent is not easy to understand. So the first time I was like "Wohhhhh...that went straight over my head...repeat pls."
Re: when you don’t get 70%
Yes first you tell them you love their accent then you say " can you repeat what you are saying please a bit slowly ." And any one with two cents of brain would know that you are having hard time understanding them and they will slow down.
Re: when you don't get 70%

**i believe you! ![]()
i’m NOT embarrassed because i can NOT understand them…embarrassed about asking them to repeat what they say. i’m NOT the kinda person who would just NOD his head and not fully understand. so yeah, it’s embarrassing to ask them to repeat themselves. :(**
Re: when you don't get 70%
I simply ask them to repeat. Its no shame.
But when I talk with brummies, I just give up and sit idle while all that innit innit thing goes on.
Re: when you don't get 70%
brit accent is really hard to get used to. There are times when a sentence or two completely goes over my head. I have always been used to the american accent. But the scottish accent as well as irish can really get me at times. But I don't feel embarrassed. I do ask once or twice 'say that again, please?'
Re: when you don’t get 70%
haha talking of scottish accent, I shall repost this video. Its hilarious!

Re: when you don’t get 70%
erm my supervisor was chinese brought up in jamaica he had a reallyyyy bad accent i would only understand 20% of the task i would be given by him.. (even after asking again like 3-4 times) and yes it used to be embarassing when he would come back and ask why i havent completed my tasks (even then i had to guess by his facial expressions what he was trying to say or if he was angry or not ) :hinna: i used to try to switch around my shifts so i wouldn’t have to work around him :hinna:

awww…
Re: when you don't get 70%
If a language does not have a particular alphabetical sound in their language it make it difficult to distinguish what the speaker is saying for example if a Chinese is saying "There is a file in kitchen. " She means fire or file . There is no R in many dialects of Chaina.
And there is no P in Arabic so you would not know if an Arab wants to park or bark in front of your house.
