when will she walk......

how did your child strt walking, or atleas ttaking few steps. my daughters turned 1 this month, and shes not interested at all, she wont even feed from her own bottle, or attempt to walk, no sign of her taking an interest either. she doesnt hold her own bottle too. she does feed herself with her hands, but no spoons or anythng,

i do have 2 other nephews both are walking and both are atleast 2months younger than my daughter. i know i shudbt compare, but she doesnteven show an interest…

Re: when will she walk......

My daughter crawled a funny crawl around 11 months.

She walked around 15-16 months.

She only recently, around 20 months, started holding the bottle on her own.

I think first babies are held and coddled more, so they do stuff later. Encourage her without stressing about it.

Re: when will she walk......

I'm only replying to get my two pence in because I'm sure guppans with more experience can give you better advice.

I'm sure you already know that there's no fixed age for stuff like this so don't worry. But generally speaking, babies with elder siblings or who have lots of people around, start doing stuff like talking, walking, eating on their own sooner.

Of all your posts I've read, I don't think I've read much about what you actually do with your daughter or what you did with her in Pakistan. She's not gonna just get up and start walking on her own out of the blue. Does she try and get up holding onto something? Does she try to walk holding on the table or the sofa? You need to spend time doing stuff with her and encourage this sort of stuff. But don't push it.

Re: when will she walk......

interactive play will help her, pop her feet on yours and imitate walking with her...
let her lean on furniture (is she cruising yet) Hold a favourite toy out and let her reach it
hold her hands and help her walk..
allow her to hold on to a pushing toy, a trolley toy or something like that and push..
help her hold furniture etc..
you need to do this stuff with her every day and an awful lot to increase her confidence, once she is confident she will do it herself.

Re: when will she walk......

Give her as much floor time as you can. Like Sahar said first babies are held a lot.

Even though I wasn't a first child I was the first daughter after 3 boys so I was held a lot. All my brothers started walking around 10 - 11 months and I didn't until about 14 months.

If you're really concerned talk to your daughters doctor but for not just enjoy her lack of mobility and have fun!

Re: when will she walk......

My daughter started walking at 10 months. Ever since she was three months old I would hold her up so that she was 'standing' while holding on to my fingers and we would pretend walk all over the place. I didn't do this because I wanted her to walk, it was just play. As she got older, I did a lot more of putting her feet on mine and walking. When she was 10 months old, one fine day she just got up and started walking. Let her climb up and down stairs on her own, with you right behind her of course. Climbing stairs on her hands and feet is an intermediate between walking and crawling and builds up those wobbly leg muscles. Our little one did a lot of stair climbing well before she started walking.

Re: when will she walk......

my daughter started crawling very early if I remember clearly it was 8th or 10th month

she started walking without support at around 16 months and with support she was walking at around 12 months. The only thing that was holding her back from walking was her fear to fall and not that she couldn't walk. The thing that made her let go of her fear was a long tour of a toy shop, me and my mom held her hands and she was walking and walking with our support and having a great time looking at the toys that day she actually got rid of her fear. May be this incident is funny & unintentional on our part but practically it worked for her.

she started holding her bottle before 1 year of age but she preferred that we hold the bottle for her.

she started eating on her own at around 18 months and now she can eat with a her cute purple spoon & fork set almost perfectly :D Masha Allah !

and my daughter can speak so many words and a few two words sentence but she can not make complete sentences on her own as yet now may be as compared to other kids of her age she should be talking (she is 24 months now masha allah) but it's ok as long as she is learning & progressing I am not worried.

Some kids do certain things early and some do certain things late a healthy comparison is good but stress too much over it sooner or later all children learn now at our age or at the age of 5 or above you won't see a kid who can not walk , talk or do things on his/her own (if there is no specific medical reason for it). So don't worry your daughter is fine masha allah !

Re: when will she walk......

My son walked at 10-11 months and daughter at 15 months. Every child is different.

Re: when will she walk......

My elder daughter walked at 10 months and my other daughter was around 14 months. Every child is different.

Re: when will she walk......

Every child is different. A friend's daughter started walking at 10 months. Mine didnt start till a week after her first birthday although my husband would get her to practice a lot. My nephew didnt start walking until he was 16 months (in Pak).

Re: when will she walk......

My daughter started walking in her 14th month. She was cruising holding onto our fingers or a table around her first birthday.
My daughter initially started to eat with her hands. Then came the fork phase.Maybe it was easier than the spoon for her.She ate everything with a fork. These days she eats (or I make her) eat with a spoon.I kinda compact a bite of rice and salan on the spoon and put it in front of her and she puts it in her mouth.Sometimes she drops some especially if the spoon goes upside down during transition from plate to mouth.Btw she is about 19 mths now,AH.
She started to hold her bottle herself a few months ago.She actually prefers that I make her prop up on a pillow and she drinks her milk. But sometimes when she is very sleepy or not in the mood she just does not touch it and wants me to hold it for her.

As others said each child is different and there is not a fixed time when they will do something. You say sh is not at all interested in walking..are you sure...?She might not be taking actual steps but she must be doing something to try to move around from one position to another.

Re: when will she walk…

no fixed age .

my elder son crawled at 10 months but didnt walk until 14 months age BUT he talked very clearly at 14 months like full words/phrases that made sense

younger one WALKED independantly, without support at 10 MONTHS MA but he doesnt talk yet and he is almost 18 months..he just says words like mama, amma, this, yeh, woh, and day dayyyyy (giveee) BUSS !! total 6 words.. :smack:

so it varies !

Re: when will she walk…

my older one walked at 21months and my little one walked at 18months i guess i just have healthy lazy kids that rather sit then walk :cb:

Re: when will she walk......

hey, yeh she does walk alot, with support of furniture, as soon as i try to walk her on her own holding my hand she collapses in a heap on the floor and makes the how dare you torture me face, which by the way she makes alot, even if i ask her to hold her bottle, she will look very angry, then very upset, and then very sulky , and as soon as she sees her dad - when we were in pak- or now as soon as she sees my mum and dad coming towards her, she will hold out her hands, and jump into their lap, and begin a one hour tale in her own language of how much im abusing her and my dadl give me a lil slap on the head, to which she laughs and all is well again. this is her daily routine whenever she is asked to do something herself......lol.

Re: when will she walk......

just keep encouraging her. don't scold her tho.

with my daughter what worked best was trying to get her to come toward me, and just standing a little too far away for her to reach.

Re: when will she walk......

LOL, a few weeks ago my mom had told me that she used this strategy with me. Nadz can even hold a toy out..to motivate her daugther to take steps toward her.

Re: when will she walk......

well my nephew is 17 moths .. not walking yet, not even showing sings. Infact not even sitting like regular babies,, he sits in a yoga position !!! He crawled late as well and still not very good at it.

He was a breach baby and after coming out cried after a minute or so. Currently seeing a physio like once a month or so. No doctor yet as said that it serious. So we are just waiting and watching.

Re: when will she walk......

^Have they checked for hip dysplasia (it happens in breach babies, but i think it's usually girls who are affected). I had to have my daughter checked for it too.

Re: when will she walk......

Don't push her, she'll walk in her own time. And please invest in a push along walker, that may help her too.

Re: when will she walk......

^ I know in the US most pediatricians discourage walkers. I don't know if it's a big deal, but I just wanted to point that out.
